In Daschle's home state, fraud wanders off the reservation.

Today the Senate will approve and send to President Bush a landmark bill that will upgrade voting machines and begin to curb the voter fraud that is creeping into too many close elections. It can't come soon enough. Last week, a massive vote-fraud scandal broke out in a Senate race in Tom Daschle's home state of South Dakota that could determine control of that body.

Based on the info in this article alone, if true, we should ban absentee voting IMMEDIATELY.

If you can't get there with proper ID, YOU DON'T VOTE.

... except for overseas military, and perhaps other overseas US citizens. Hm. There should be some sort of absentee ballot, for those who just can't make it to the polls....

Attorney General Mark Barnett, a Republican,

WTF? Can't recall seeing that one before. How about identifying all of OJ's lawyers as dems?

I thought Fund was a good guy...

The U.S. Attorney General's Office needs to be called in immediately and CRIMINAL CHARGES filed. Pubbies are great on political philosophy but lousy campaigners. We need some junk yard dogs in the GOP camp like the Dim-o-crats have in James Carville. THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR US TO ROLL OVER AND PLAY DEAD with this issue.

John Fund is a Republican as well. I think he was just identifiying all involved in the case by party for journalistic integrity.

The law Congress is passing addresses some of the problems the federal government created with the 1994 Motor Voter Law. Let's hope the latest scandal in South Dakota -- uncovered only due to incredibly sloppy cheating -- prompts states to examine their own absentee-ballot laws so they will stop being treated as an engraved invitation to fraud.

Motor Voter was and is a disaster.. My idea would be to purge all the voter registrations after this upcoming election and anyone who wants to register can do so but only after proving they are qualified. Citizen, have the IQ higher than a turnip, and must be able to read and understand english. Have to make a trip to the county court house to register. No more mailing it in. Unless of course you are in the lilitary and living over seas. I am one of the few who does not think we have to be out getting people registered. If they want to register they should make an effort. Voter registrations and VISA's have been passed out like candy too long.

This should be treated like the CEO's at Enron, etc.: Lets see some of these people hauled off to jail and maybe that'll be a wake-up call for the rest!

State Democrats told the Christian Science Monitor they expect 10,000 new votes from the Indian reservations this year. In 1996, Sen. Johnson won by only 8,600 votes. Russell LaFountain, the director of Native Vote 2008, says his organizers are encouraging "strong absentee balloting." Pine Ridge Reservation residents told me that 11 workers are being paid $14 an hour to contact voters. The statewide Indian voter project is run by Brian Drapeaux and Rich Gordon, two former staffers for Sen. Daschle. Democratic officials say they've fired Ms. Duta and claim they were the first to bring the fraud to light. Ms. Enright, the Dewey County auditor, says that claim isn't true and is "pure spin."

This activity has been increasing over the last ten years. Particularly since Clinton's second campaign. There was every reason to believe Dole would have had a better showing by default. I watched bundles of last minute absentee ballots come in to Eugene in Oregon on election day at the last minute during the Smith-Wyden contest. You just wonder how it can be stopped. I'm glad someone is trying.

Maybe now is a good time to remind our indigenous brethern that Bruce Babbit and the Democrats have absconded with, or can't account for, billions of dollars in their trust fund.

Some voters claim to have been offered cash to register to vote.

BUMP against Phila-type voter fraud.

Here we go again:

In both Dewey and Ziebach counties, the number of registered voters easily exceeds the number of residents over 18 counted by the 2000 census.

Another one for your collection.

Many seniors are visited at home and persuaded to have someone mark an absentee ballot for them.

Reminds me of the 2000 election when Rosie O'Donnel was shown on video tape leading an obviously senile senior citizen away from the voting booth, and the old woman was heard asking Rosie "Now who was it we voted for?". The video was intended to make Rosie look like she was helping out old people, when it actually revealed that she was exploiting old people. What SCUM!

Now for the unpopular opinion. I blelive that if you are a citizen you have a right to one vote. Period. Whether or not you are registered. Because you are a citizen and you do have a right to vote. Because turning someone who comes to the polls to vote who has not already voted is disenfranchisement. A right is something that you are entitled to no matter what. A priviliege is something that can be withheld from you. Voter registration grants people the privilege of voting instead of the right to vote because you can have that privilege withheld at the polls even if you are of age and have not voted previously in that election.

Evidently quite a few people agree with you. Vote early and vote often.

It shouldn't have to be up to the poll workers to find out if you are a legal citizen or if you are a felon. Registration also helps to make sure people only vote once although there does seem to be a big problem with the system right now it needs fixed. I still say purge all voter registration and start all over. No more motor voter.. That is the culprit in this voters mess. People who have a desire to vote should have to make a little bit of an effort to get rigistered.. I agree every citizen has the right to vote but they also have the right to make sure they are registered to vote.
