I don't mind considering the psycho theory, but someone has to give better reasons that those which are demonstrably untrue!

Agreed! I did not think this was terrorism at the beginning because of certain assumptions I had: it wasn't claimed (neither was 9/11); Muslims don't use Tarot cards (rules are suspended when acting for God; may have some history with intro of tarot cards in Europe); and the list could go on. I still think that it may well be home-grown craziness, I just don't know. Even if that proves to be true, I fully expect to find an OBL sympathizer. But to rule out terrorism is just foolhardy for the reasons Walsh and others give.

If these experts would just read FreeRepublic first, then they would not go on national TV and make fools of themselves!

tomkat - you have freepmail. Thank you so much for starting the thread - that was very thoughtful. Just noticed you signed my name. If I get back to sleeping regular hours (fingers crossed) and someone starts thread, just let it stand as your own thread. I would never take offense at that and would only be grateful. Freep regards.

WMAL also reported that, and there is a Washington Post article this morning also saying his condition is now serious. Go to the thread entitled "Speed and Skill Saved Boy".

There was a shooting in a liquor store in the middle of September that bears all the resemblance of this sniper. As far as I know, the connection has not been ruled in or out.

I doubt if someone who has just started carrying could be very effective in such a frantic situation.

This deals with common criminals, but over 90% of defensive firearm uses only require the Good Guy to show their firearm. The Good Guy actually having to shoot the Bad Guy is vanishingly rare. (This is how the anti-rights mob gets their 43 times fallacy... By only counting shooting a Bad Guy as a "defensive firearms use.")

Thanks, I didn't see your earlier report on the boy until after I posted the news.

However, it never hurts to post such good news twice!

That shooting was of an employee standing outside the liquor store after closing. I believe I have also read of a shooting of somebody eating inside a restaurant.

It would do no good to have them bolt to another city.

I heard on some news station that the NYPD has published an alert for people to look for these white vans up there. Interesting.

I hadn't heard of that. I would be interested to know more about it, too.

I agree with all of your points.

>>>Chief Moose's rather incoherent statement<<<<

Upon further review, this isn't the first "incoherent" statement made by the Moose. It seems to me someone assigned to speak to the press (and head up the investigation I might add) should be competent enough to compose a lucid sentence.

Interesting that in the last shooting one witness was clearly able to identify the weapon as a AK74 (not an AK47) which the differences in outward appearance are extremely subtle. Yet the same witness is unable (according to authorities) to provide an accurate description of the shooter???

Law enforcement routinely hold back info during on-going investigations after the crime is committed when they believe there is no serious ongoing immediate threat Example: a lone murder where they believe they have several good leads.

This is an active and ongoing threat to the community and any and all info regarding suspects should be pushed to the community.

IMHO, More is obviously underfoot because the LEO pro's are NOT inept......

Katherine Herrige?

Correct, I thought that might happen once or twice, till someone said something in her IFB, but it went on for days... Just surprising and somewhat jarring, if one is listening intently. Kind of like switching languages in mid sentence!

In reality, these shootings happen so fast and the shooter leaves the scene so quickly, the public has very little time to react. With the exception of this last killing, I don't think anyone has even seen the shooter, nearly eliminating the opportunity to react.

In my personal experiences, I have had the utmost respect for the work of law enforcement in my area. One weekend a few years ago, the police were chasing some kids who had just robbed a store. They ended up hiding in the woods where my business is located. As the police were apprehending these boys, they came across a human skull. The place was cordoned off and I was called at home. They explained what was happening, stated they suspected who the skull belonged to, and proved it after about three months of forensic work. At the time, it was a pretty big deal, yet never was a press conference held. I'm saying all this to shed light on my opinion that the LEO's in the Beltway area seem more interested in their 15 minutes that in informing or reassuring the public. Their numerous contradictions emit a weakness and surely must be instilling additional panic in an already apprehensive populace.
