Beltway Sniper Shootings-FR Commentary-Wed., Oct. 23,2002
Fox News, CNN, Press Conferences | October 23, 2002 | Fox News, CNN, Press Conferences

Let's keep a live commentary thread going again today. The FBI Tip Line #1-888-324-9800.

All seems quiet since yesterday's news the shooter may target children specifically. It was released on various news outlets the shooter's 3-page letter to police was in broken English and threatened extreme violence. Police announced an electronic transfer of $10m as requested by the shooter was not possible but other options for transfer remain open. No one seriously believes police will actually give the shooter $$, but police are trying to keep a dialogue open with the shooter in an effort to capture this monster.

I wonder if duck in a noose is a code for the white isuzu or van that could be driving around with a dirty nuke in it?

So how many of us knew about this legend? Doesn't this tell us something more about the sniper?

It's nearly a month later. Why wouldn't you have dumped it?

Maybe you could get by 48 hours or so after stealing it, but not later, I wouldn't think.

Oh yeah focus on the military...

THAT is chilling. Okay. What about the entire phrase:
"We caught the sniper like a duck in a noose."

wb, vg... Missed your thinking on this latest mystery.

What would be analogous for LEO's to "eat your own fur?"

One day, a long time ago, near a river, a rabbit said he could do everything that everybody else does. Otter said he would do something, and Rabbit could do it after him.
Otter said he would go chase after a duck because he wanted to eat it.
Otter swam under the water to the duck.
He caught a duck's leg and yanked it down under the water.
He swam back to his hiding place to eat the duck.
Then Rabbit went to go try it.
He made a noose out of a baby tree.
He swam out there and came up to breathe.
Then he went back under water.

He tried to get the duck, but it didn't work out.
The duck took him.
Rabbit threw the noose over the duck's head.
The duck went flying out of the water into the sky.
Rabbit got tired of holding on.
Then he let go.

He was going down and he landed in a stump.

He was stuck in that stump and couldn't get out.
Then rabbit ate his fur because he was hungry.

He finally got out.
There were some kids playing and they heard a rabbit singing.
The kids went to go tell their father.
He helped the rabbit get out.
He cut a little door.

When he opened the door, the rabbit flew by.
To this day, when Rabbit is hungry, he eats his own fur.

after staring a tree stump for six hours
Psy-ops. That's why they're flying to stump east.

You know....stolen credit cards are often sold for quick use.

That is probably why MOOSE says these guys are not the snipers. They probably sold the CC to someone.

Sniper too smart to think a CC can't be traced to him. Looks like the Duck in the noose swung the rabbit into the tree.

YOU GOT IT! And the shootings started just a few days after that!

I bet he was at that camp then!

I think so, too.

We have caught the sniper like a duck in a noose. Probably, we haven't really caught the sniper at all, for he will fly away.

"A duck in a noose" is something you haven't really caught or maybe can't catch.

Why would they ask Moose to say "We caught the sniper like a duck in a noose" if they hadn't?

Because he thinks he has total control. He believes he is running the show.

Assuming AQ involvement...

The sniper team may have two purposes: 1) obviously spread general terror in the DC area; 2) get law enforcement to spread the message to other cells to fulfill their missions.

This "Duck in a Noose" may be the phrase that gives them the green light. LE fell for it. That way, OBL (if alive) or some other leader doesn't tip off US authorities to their whereabouts.
