WASHINGTON -- Democratic Sen. Paul Wellstone of Minnesota, one of the last unapologetic liberals left in Congress and known among his friends as a ``pied piper of modern politics,'' died Friday in a Minnesota plane crash. He was 58.

Wellstone's wife, Sheila Ison Wellstone, and daughter Marcia also died in the crash. Three campaign staff members and two pilots also perished.

This is what a chatter replied to me in a political chat room where I go by the handle of SaphyrB

27 PM: Duke2002 -- Fri, Oct 25 1:05pm PST -----

Michael Dukakis SAPHYR- Wellstone is a martyr, to honor his memory, we must elect Democrats to carry on the causes he beleived in.

Here's what I know about Wellstone: we heard first reports of his death at about 2:00 PM EDT. Check out this stock chart:

Yeah, Democrats are great for the Stock Market.

Pardon my coldness, but at least his wife can't get elected to his seat with the sympathy vote. I can't believe how stupid voters can be.

I was talking to fellow Freeper Humidston today and made the comment that maybe these Democrats should start taking the bus. They don't fly well.

Being nice to a family that is suffering loss isn't a sign of weakness.

I liked him. Didn't agree much but at least he was clear where he stood.

He was a Bob Smith of the left....until Smith took a dive and stopped being a straight shooter.

I agree with you and I would like to add that he was a murderer also.

If it was not for him and people of his ilk who voted against the anti abortion bills and voted against over-ridding clinton's veto of the partial- birth abortion bill, a lot of babies would be alive today that are dead now.

My sympathy is with the innocent babies that were and are murdered on an assembly line basis each day.

******** TWO FOR TWO *********

Is it true, as the Drudge Report is headlining, that Mondale may take Wellstones Seat?

Odd how the now deceased-Wellstone was in a losing race..

The New Jersey Ballot-Switch was questionable because the candidate hadn't died...yet the Democrats were successful in replacing a losing candidate with a more Probable WIN!

And NOW, add another losing-Democrat to the heap, except this one is dead!

If this is really happening...that the Democrats are replacing LOSING candidate with more WINNING ones...

Then Presidential-Hopeful Hillary Rodham is more BEAST than even we suspect she is!

Watch Out America...LIBERTY is on the edge, EVIL is on the Prowl..and VICTORY will be HERS!

{whether we vote for it or not!)

I'm a lot more saddened about the death of Richard Harris. The only plus here is that Minnesota is run pretty much on the level with intelligent election laws. Laws that will have the D-Rats losing this senate seat.

I concur. The libs are gonna politicize the hell out of this death for all it's worth.I feel sorry for his family but enough already of the platitudes. Wellstone's politics were by in large contrary to the Constitution.

"...I'm with you there..."

You're not alone.

What was his record?

Was he a gun-grabber? An enabler for baby butchers? Another liberal traitor?

If so, then to Hell with him.

I've noticed SneakyPete on a couple threads. I'm almost certain he's Dim operative. His positions in one thread often contradict what he posts in another. However, they are consistent with each other in that they are ALWAYS taking pot shots at Republicans or trying to sow doubt in conservative's minds.

I find it a wee bit suspicious that Democratic Senatoial candidates who aer behind in close and key races so often die in fiery plane crashes right before the election. Wellstone, a dead man, will win this election, just like Carnahan.

Remember, the Mob has been known to kill people by sabotage of aircraft, and the Arkansas Mafia seems to have an obsession for it.

Posts #53, 54, 55 ==> AMEN! Preach it, brother!

Let's not forget that wellstone was caught red-handed in the post office scandal, but his constituency is apparently so liberal, or so unaware, that they didn't care, and continually re-elected him. That's what his "principles" were. He was as "principled" as Dan Rotten-cowski, Bill Clinton, or any other prominent Democrat.

Can he not be elected in MN? It was unlawful for Carnahan to win in MO in 200, but that didn't stop the Dems. And Ashcroft, knowing bigger things were probably in store for him, didn't raise a peep.
