Happy to say that wasn't my experience during the "Clintoon years." My husband and I went to Washington (about 7 hours away) with our then nine year old son for the huge rally on the mall to oust Clinton.
If you believe no one was "acting," that must be because you believed the press about that rally. The reality was we had about 4,000 Freepers on the mall and a whole host of excellent speakers.
Sadly, one of the biggest things that experience taught me was -- if the media doesn't want people to know, you're going to have a hard time getting the word out. There was more coverage of the 100 person pro-clintoon rally than our 4K person rally. If people don't know we're there and what we have to say, it's almost like it didn't happen. And what power do we have to force the networks to publicize something they don't want to talk about?
If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, did it actually make any noise?
Kristinn cleans up purty nice, don't he?! Tie was a nice touch I hadn't considered...

Suffice to say, that's not an ordinary bollo that one cam pick up in a gift shop in Winslow, Arizona. I wore that, and cufflinks, watchband, etc. to match, for the first time ever at the dinner for the House Impeachment Managers in DC.

Me, too...it's good to put a face and a handshake with a Screen Name...MUD
A couple of things come to mind:
If we didn't do it, it looks like it wouldn't have been done, by anybody else.
Because we did do it, CSPAN covered it.
So, it was played on air hours after the fact. So what?
It was played, around the globe to every country that has CSPAN. So our message did get out there, and it was seen by a whole lotta people who otherwise would have only seen the other side and its speakers and vulgar signs.
If we had not had the rally, only one side would have been heard.
We could have had four people and the same bunch of speakers, and it would still be as great a success - because the rally was aired all over the place!
So, let the critics rant away, and laugh and ridicule and mock. The bottom line is this...
The world heard what our speakers had to say.
The world saw who the real extremists were.
The world saw the radical left in a new light, as the anti-free-speech thugs that they are.
The world saw the left as gangs of bullies who tried to disrupt a permitted rally of civilized Americans exercizing their right to peaceably assemble.
The world saw our emcee taking questions from the leftist infiltrators, and they watched as he answered them masterfully and in a most civilized way.
The world saw and heard the voices of some Iraqi exiles whose families suffered and suffer under the gun of Saddam.
The world heard who sponsors the left.
The world may not have been bodily on the Monument grounds with us yesterday, but they most certainly were at the rally because it was broadcast on CSPAN for them to see.
We acheived our goal. The left's message was not the only one being broadcast to the world yesterday. We were heard.
