When Ron Lantz phoned 911 to report a blue Chevy matching the description of the D.C. snipers' car, the police told him to stay where he was, to not get involved. Instead, he used his truck to park it in.

I read the cops asked him to block the car in until they arrived here... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/775461/posts

They instructed Lantz to wait for state troopers to arrive but to block the Chevy in with their vehicles.

The unassuming truck driver waited 15 nerve-racking minutes until the authorities arrived.

Police business is primarily after the fact. I'm not putting them down. They deal with the sludge and scum of society day after day. Undercover oficers may get a heads up alert to HQ about pending robberies, hits, etc., but for the most part they are called after the refuse has hit the propeller. They could do a better job if it weren't for the fact that they are also big revenue enhancers, nailing folks for driving 7 mph over the limit.

It's what we got when the egg-heads got folks to surrender their independence (and put down their guns) to the idea of a Police Force. But some didn't, and they don't need to worry about how they will protect their dear ones against burglars and rapists. And each day, more of us pick up the guns again. That way, it's not us the police are loading into a body bag. It's the rat who came at us.

Excellent post, and more proof of the utter stupidity of the myth that dialing 911 is "safer" than blowing the intruder away.

Fight. Fight with weapons. Fight with your bare hands if you have to.

No surrender to thugs.

Class, here is your assigned reading, available from www.amazon.com

Dial 911 and Die
by Richard W. Stevens, Garn Turner (Illustrator)

I'm pro-cop...but a LOT of their work is just showing up and recording the way
in which you were killed, then hoping to gather enough clues to maybe find the perp.

My attitude is that even if I didn't survive an attack, I'd like to at leave have
my attacker leave a blood trail and have a few slugs in him/her to help the cops
know they got the right guy, once they track them down.

Or find them dead on my lawn or slumped dead over the wheel of their git-away vehicle.

If the police would spend more time on REAL law enforcement instead of B.S. like, ticketing, hassling kids in parking lots, dope smokers, and seat belt violators we would be a heck of a lot better off and wouldn't need but half of them.

I have found at least 3 SCOTUS decisions that confirm this. This is one of the main reasons for the Second Amendment.

I'll bet most cops will agree that warrants are a pain in the ass too.

Not officially, of course. And it's totally understandable.

Our rights aren't their responsibility either. They are ours.

While I am certain that Osama is indeed very wrong about some Americans - the posters on this forum, for example - is he really so wrong about all those folks who vote leftists into congress year after year - the blue part of the 2000 election map??

I like the cops at shooting matches, not their bosses who are sucking up to the mayor. I very much like the tough-minded people on Free Republic who speak out bravely against the the clintons, the un, the pc whimps, gun grabbers and etc. My hope is that we gain some serious momentum.

Last time I checked (about a year ago),there were about 700,000 cops in the US. In any given 8 hour shift, around 240,000 of them are on official duty. There are around 280 MILLION of the rest of us. That means about ONE cop for around every 1,200 of us. The math makes it a no-brainer to say that we're really on our own when it comes to personal security.

And the Supremes have ruled that the while the police have a duty to maintain law and order and preserve PUBLIC safety, they have no special obligation to any SPECIFIC citizen. On that basis, some cops -- like those who died on 9-11 and at other times actually trying to save individuals -- really ARE heroes!

Try as they might, the cops cannot be everywhere.

They are after-the-fact agents, usually arriving in time to string some yellow tape, chalk your outline on the pavement and help the ME's boys close the doors on the meat wagon.

Like Tony Soprano, you need to "...get yourself a gun."

Tony has several.

And HE lives in that relatively gun-free sanctuary known as New Jersey.

The following is not original with me. I received it as an email some time ago, but it seems appropriate here:

"I refuse to be a sheep. I refuse to let anyone have power over me. I am no vigilante, but I know that I have as much a right to be here as anyone else in the world, and some idiot who needs a sawbuck for dope or is looking for some quick cash is not going to take me out without a fight.

Because the world has dishonest people, I carry.

Because the world has murderers and thieves, I carry.

Because they could be the next person I meet on the street, I carry.

And because I refuse to be a victim, I carry.

I will state without apology my belief in God and my right to keep and bear arms.

I will take charge of my own personal safety.

I will give myself a fighting chance by carrying my concealed weapon.

I will not depend on the government, the police, or others to protect me.

I will always obey the gun laws.

I will constantly be alert to my surroundings.

I will acknowledge and accept the responsibility of carrying a concealed weapon.

I will not take unnecessary risks because I am carrying.

I will promote and continue to fight for my right to keep and bear arms as an American.

And I will always, always, always carry."

Cops usually are report takers...those that can actually write. Having read a number of police reports lately, most cannot write past a fifth grade level.

The Police are a REACTIONARY entity. They are NOT proactive. In a very small number of cases do they ever stop the crime before/while it occurs. Their job basically starts after the crime. If the opposite were true, there'd be no crime.Protect yourself & your family. Learn to safely use a firearm.

No fear. Resist. Don't let them tread on you.

Both in big things like the war on Al-Qaeda terror trying to destroy America and in small things like the war on drug-crazed thugs trying to steal money, we must all fight until our last breath.
