[history]
Officials planning this evening's memorial service for Sen. Paul Wellstone scrambled Monday not only to coordinate traffic, security and media hookups but also to set its symbolism, mood and emotion.
Former Vice President Al Gore will attend, a Gore spokesman said, as will about 50 senators, including Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.; Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D.; and Minority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss.

Screw em.
Bury the lib and get over it.
Maybe Clinton will get lucky and score with some chick.
Maybe the disgraced ex-president will too.

White House spokeman Scott Stanzel said that it's not protocol for presidents to attend the funerals of senators but that Vice President Dick Cheney had planned to attend. "The [Wellstone] family was appreciative," Stanzel said. But the plan was changed after conversations with the family, he said. Asked if that meant the Wellstone family did not want Cheney to come, he said that was correct. Then Lott should not attend either. But then again, Lott probably does'nt have the guts to stay away. After all, that might make Tommy the Dashle, mad at him.

This is actually fine with me. No one should be forced to have someone they don't care for at a family funeral.
And maybe this opens the door for Nancy Reagan to ban Bubba from her husband's funeral when the time comes.

Clinton will be there to hook up with Eleanor Mondale.

I hope Bubba does attend. I know he will not be able to resist the temptation to campaign for his legacy and will leave a bad taste in evryone's mouth when he does. It may even be enough to screw whoever replaces Wellstone on the ballot with so little time left before the election.

That way, he doesn't have to pretend he cares.

Wouldn't that be great? The only thing I'm dreading about Reagan dying is seeing the Stainmaster at the funeral acting like he cares. Other than that, the man has earned his Rest.

leave a bad taste in evryone's mouthLOL! What an unfortunate choice of words!

Cool, the gloves are off.

The only thing I'm dreading about Reagan dying is seeing the Stainmaster at the funeral acting like he caresYes, that would make me puke, and I'd much rather spend that day crying.

You watch. The Bubster will want to find some way to bring attention to himself.
Cheney's attendance would have taken some of the attention away from the Sun King. I think that was the problem.

The Democrats with this action once again show they have no class and see this as well as all politics/power as all out war.
To: ejdrapes
I thought the Demos didn't think it proper to inject politics into Wellstone's passing.

The magnitude (20,000 people)and the planned eulogies at this funeral sort of remind me of what the Nazis did for Rommel after his death.

Now there would be a timely photo-op! However, I would imagine that hillary will be along for the ride.
