Following are excerpts from a recent interview by reporter Julia Duin with historian Bat Ye'or, who grew up as a Jew in Egypt, then emigrated with her family to England. She and her husband live in Switzerland.

Q: Why have you taken on the task of explaining to people what it has been like for Christians and Jews to live under Muslim rule to the point of coining a word

Q: What else are Muslims saying about Western history?

A: They are saying that the Renaissance developed thanks to them. That is pure nonsense. It is linked to a desire to dominate European culture. The Muslims in Spain developed their civilization from their Christian predecessors and from Byzantine influence from the 13th century.

I've also heard a Mohammedan claim that this land was discovered by Mohammedans, that it's wealth was built on the backs of Mohammedans, and that the founding fathers were greatly influenced by Mohammedanism.

Thank God we are being so tolerant of the beast that wants to devour us.

Very scary. But hardly surprising - after all, few dare challenge them. Even the US, despite all the attacks and the deaths of so many of our innocent citizens, continues to prattle about the moslems being a legitimate religion.

Interesting, is it not, that the tolerance that so many are so proud of, may be the death of us?
