It's bad news Run DMC were anti gangsta-rap.
To: SevenofNine
Can you translate, please?
To: The Great Satan
They sang with Aerosmith on "Walk This Way"

Very sad news. Jam Master Jay was a great DJ, and certainly didn't espouse 'gangsta trippin'.

The last "rap" song I remember liking was something called "Rumors:"
In a camisole
She's six feet tall
She'll knock you to your knees
Or something like that.

Any songs that I, a 41 year old white guy, might know? You maybe too young for that, but didn't he co-write "What the World Needs Now (Is Love Sweet Love!)"?

NOOO WAAYYYYY
OH NOOO Grandmaster Jay got whack
That sucks I remember Run-Dmc back in the 1980s
War King of Rocks

He won't stop rockin until he retiresOr, until he dies the gansta way, with a bullet in the cranium.
I sort of liked Run-DMC, but I refuse to elevate any rap artist to the level of groups that can actually play musical instruments. There simply is no comparison between rhyming words and playing a guitar or piano (or any instrument) well; or, for that matter, actually writing a song that has more to it than just a beat.

I am certianly no rap fan. However Run DMS was NOT gangsta rap. They were as much Gansta as Martha Stewart.
I suppose you have never heard their music? No violence, little vulgarity.

This Amazon link is a link to their recent Greatest Hits release. Pretty much covers, well, their greatest hits.
To: Major Matt Mason
Nobody compared him to Jimmy Hendrix, baby boomer.
The guy was creative and made some catchy music.
He also was a christian and somebody's son.

Thanks for the link. Played a few clips. Sounds bloody awful, if you ask me. But, to each his own.

Legendary hip-hop DJ Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC was shot and killed in Queens on Wednesday (October 30), according to the group's
camp.
They have a camp? Where is it? Sleeping bags? Toasting marshmellows.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
May he rest in peace.

Evidently I can't read either. If this ain't gangster rap, then Led Zepplin isn't rock and roll. If I was that stupid, I would probably actually listen to this garbage.
Whatcha Gonna Do by Run DMC
Never let a punk get away with murder
Gun shots, gun shots, all you heard-a
What's up? What's up? What's the word up?
Press your luck or buck another sucker just ducked
Ooh, whatcha gonna do (4X)
A vain from my brain means I'm causin em pain
Comin rough with the stuff that's just a part of the game
The rhymes have been hard since the start of the jam
So I'ma pull my jammy out and I'ma murder the man
Bust a rap like a cap, put a hole in your soul
Take the trigger then you figured that I'm losin control
I go loco with the vocals, yo goes the chokehold
And I broke those pros with the dope flows
I slow rolls, NO I don't smoke those
Leave the blunts for the punks in front rows
I said mine, headline or deadline
You see redline, here comes your bedtime
I lay it down, lay it low
Now I'm off and runnin on some new rhyme flow
I flex break necks bust tecs mic checks son
fill you full of lead and now get ready for the next one
Never let a punk get away with murder
Gun shots, gun shots, all you heard-a
What's up? What's up? What's the word up?
Press your luck or buck another sucker just ducked
Ooh, whatcha gonna do (4X)

RIP Jam Master Jay ...
I liked Run DMC ... still have a tape of them in concert from about 1985 or so ... I never really liked rap music (being more inclined to harmonic complexity and other high-brow musical notions) but I did like their stuff ... they were not at all 'Gangsta' ... 3 doods making 'music' with what the had (turntables and mics.)

This is horrible news. Bottom line...Jay was a class act. Horrible loss even if you are not a rap fan. They were just enjoying a new sort of comeback on tour with Kid Rock and Aerosmith. RIP Jay.
To: BurbankKarl
This is sad. He was one of the few rappers that I could let my kids listen to over the years. He was quite a talent and will be missed, especially by those of us in the music business who don't like to cuss every other word.
To: Hail Caesar
He was one of the few rappers He was the DJ, he never "rapped" on anything I don't think.

Run DMC wasn't ganster. Evidently you haven't heard them. Yes they were, in their last few albums. They were on drugs, drinking, and generally outta hand. Recently they had cleaned up again though.
