November 2, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - It's ex-president vs. current president today in Florida as Bill Clinton does his best to beat Florida Gov. Jeb Bush - while President Bush stumps at his brother's side.

The extraordinary showdown comes because two years after Clinton left office, he's still his party's best alternative to counter Bush's popularity and rev up Democrats in the final push to get out the vote.

How I wish someone in the Bush administration would mention the FALN terrorist pardoning scheme Bubba orchestrated to get votes for Hellery, which resulted in being condemned by 95 senators. This is the time. Right before the election. Right after the tacky memorial. Right after the sniper. Right before the election. Clinton PARDONED BOMB TERRORISTS in exchange for votes! How can that man show his face anywhere?

Slick Willy is certainly polarizing, but the most polarizing presidential candidate in the last half of the 20th century may have been Richard Nixon, and he managed to win the U.S. presidency with the largest majority (more than 17 million votes) in the history of the Republic in 1972 even though he had run well behind Muskie in January of that year. Hillary is every bit as polarizing as Slick and yet she is considered one of the strongest possible Democrat opponents in the 2004 presidential election. I'd like to see which Democrat would poll the largest vote in a hypothetical runoff against Dubya in the 2004 election, but I have never seen a poll in which Slick's name was included as a possible opponent to Dubya. After all, Slick's man McAuliffe is still in charge of the DNC, and if McBride beats Jeb, my guess is that Slick Willy will take a lot of the credit. Just as improbable as it has been for Slick, as a recent president, to campaign so vigorously in a mid-term election so soon after leaving office, he may, just as improbably, have his eye on running for the Democrat presidential nomination in 2004

Clinton is not worth the energy of making a joke. He's not even worth the effort to spit at.

Wouldn't it take a Constitutional amendment for Bill Clinton to run? There's no way such an amendment would pass, especially not in the short time (14 months or so) between now and when the Democratic nominee will be selected.

"Has that clinton "legacy" made you feel safer yet?"

Lest Americans ever forget why the clintons, and all their enablers need to be hectored, hounded, and harried into silence, until "clintonese is only spoken in Hell," look here:

"he's still his party's best alternative "

If this one line alone doesn't prove the DemonRat party is headed to hell in a handbasket you'd probably vote for ScumBubba again. I just gotta believe that neither God nor Darwin would allow a species to continue where the majority is that rotten and/or dumb.

Is Hillary! taking on the Bushes as well?

If Bill rises to the occasion, I see no reason why Hillary will not tighten her jaw and take on the Bushes as well. She is quite an orator in her own right, and has been known to burn the candle at both ends.

I think there would be no obstacle to Slick's running for the presidency in 2004 if he were nominated by the Democrats as their presidential candidate.

You've got that right. Mighty disappointing the GOP doesn't see fit to go for the jugular at this time.

If McCall goes down like the stone he appears to be, Clinton will lose some of his lustre. Going away is quite another thing, though. He and she both have brass ones.

Bush is so popular that even many Democrats hug him politically. Clinton is a polarizing figure who's not welcome in states with most of the key Senate races.

What heartwarming comments. In your face, clintbilly!

Take on the Bushes, HA!

no obstacle?

Article XXII of the U.S. Constitution
Section 1
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice...

However, one wonders if he could run as VP, and have the new president conviently "leave office".

You gotta be kidding me. The Constitution stands in his way. He can neither run for Pres, nor serve as Vice-Pres (since no one who cannot serve as President, and Clinton cannot, is allowed to be veep).
