I believe cspan has all of the 1984 presidental debates on line. I watched them yesterday during work (I have a T1 connection there). Just wanted to see the "I won't use my opponents youth and inexperience against him" line. Still a classic.

"But then he picked his nose on camera, and when I say "picked his nose" I mean he went drilling like we're gonna drill ANWR.."

Oh man. LOL Given the circumstances, I think you are correct. Darn it.

Just goes to show, you can't debate if you don't have a position or a compass. Wellstone had that; a belief in what he was doing and knowledge to back it up. Mondale is your typical poll-driven Dem with no center.

The best part was when he said he was against nuclear energy, but then went on to say we should be looking hard at anti-matter as an alternative fuel source.

"[Republican lawmakers] charged that he was trying to avoid a debate and "play out the clock" with only three more days remaining in a race that both sides said was too close to call."

Oh, so that's where Dennis Green is these days? Running Mondale's campaign?

I called my Mom in NY this morning ...and the subject of Ronald Reagan came up . She loves him , as I do , and we both agreed he was in a class by himself . We both remain mystified that only 8 years after his landslide victory against Mondull , the Amnesians could elect a scumbag like Clintoon .

If the people of Minnesota vote this clown into office they get what they deserve!

Not ALL of us!! We can't help it that the state has a large population of ignorant morons...

You have NO IDEA how frustrating it is to realize that the RATS will show up in throngs to cast their vote in the memory of Wellstone - and that they actually BELIEVE that Mondale shares Wellstone's views. (One can only hope that Tuesday's funerally turned the stomachs of those RATS who have brains - Aye, there's the rub...)

The next few days are going to be nail-biters.

One of the common Rat tricks is to drop a big LIE that makes the pubbie look awful right before the election. Think Box O'Rocks Boxer in her first run with her accusation that ultra-conservative Herschenson (sp?) was caught going to a strip joint.

The trouble is that there's no time to show the people that it IS a lie and no time for the appropriate backlash to develop against the liar.

I fully expect something similar from our hero of the Nuremburg Rally on Monday night. Very few will hear it because they'll be watching Monday night football, but the ever-complicit press will trumpet it on every newscast Monday night and all day Tuesday.

They will carefully say that Mondale says, "..." because they will KNOW it's a lie and will need to be able to say, "We were just reporting what was said..." I wonder what the Rats will invent this time.

Whatever it turns out to be, Friday would have been too early--Coleman would have a chance to turn it back on them--but Monday night just might work.

Radio? It's a fine medium, but......we have TV now Mr. Mondale. It's a wonderful new invention that shoots pictures of people out through the air into peoples homes.

I read the debate comments (thanks for the link 'Hellinahandcart'), and the greenie is definitely out as a vote drainer, unless he gets the sympathy vote! How about the other guy? No good at all for stealing those Mondale votes? (The Greenie was so bizarre, perhaps the other leftist will suffice.)

When Mondale was running against Gary Hart in the 1984 Democratic primaries he borrowed a line from the Wendy's commercials

"Where's the Beef?"

Where is the Beef, Walter?

Where's Waldo?

Actually, if the Minnesota R's could put it together quickly, that would be a great ad.

Yes, I remember the retired admiral. He made few passionate remarks in his debate, but some of the things he said are long remembered. One of the things I especially remember was his shrill support for legalized abortion. This old POW, who had suffered such hardship, had such a hard heart that he would consign 1.2 million babies a year to the nearest abortionist, no exceptions, no questions asked. I have no respect for Stockdale, but I can understand how some "moderates" found him "refreshing." His attraction is not unlike that of John McCain on Republican "moderates."
