About 1:15 PM AST. Pretty good quake felt in Fairbanks. Lasted about 30 seconds. Things were rockin'. Books fell off shelves, speaker fell off PC. Even the dog woke up.

I worked in Alaska the summer of '83 and went through two 6+ quakes. Actually saw the steel support beam in the ceiling of my apartment shimmy during one. Nobody seemed to pay much attention.

If the dog woke up, then it's serious.

Mother Earth is busy today---
Mild Earthquake Centered in Nebraska Is Felt in Parts of Three Midwestern States
The Associated Press
Published: Nov 3, 2002

O'NEILL, Neb. (AP) - A mild earthquake centered near the Nebraska-South Dakota state line was felt in parts of three states Sunday.
No major damage was reported, but callers reported that pictures were knocked off walls in O'Neill and some other towns in the region.

The 4.3 magnitude earthquake hit about 2:45 p.m. CST, some 30 miles northwest of O'Neill, and lasted about 10 seconds said John Minsch, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey.

"It was felt in parts on Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota," Minsch said from the National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colo.

O'Neill is 190 miles northwest of Omaha.

Today is also the new moon, so this is probably a time of maximum tidal stress, when earthquakes would be more likely to let go.

If it shook Fairbanks 30 seconds and shook 3-1/2 minutes someplace else, then it might have been strong somewhere. The Good Friday quake was like that.

A lot of us in California are waiting for an electoral earthquake to hit Tuesday. Simon is on a Roll!! Davi$ is Doomed.

Seriously, hope no one got hurt.. even though it may seem "normal" to some, ya get above a 6.5 or 7, it's messing up somebody's neighborhood pretty darn bad somewhere.

We sailed up that way just 2 months ago. It was nice and stable the whole time. 1964 still comes to mind.
