FR Goes to the Mattresses: Helpful Hints for the Coming Election Siege
www.freerepublic.com | November 4, 2002

Posted on 11/04/2002 5:37:49 AM PST by Howlin

In perilous times such as these, filled with Breaking News on practically an hourly basis, words of war, debate about the war, an upcoming election, and scandal after scandal foisted upon this country, it is time that we FR "regulars" share helpful hints and recipes to get us through these busy days and nights ahead, logged on to FR continuously, all the while trying to maintain a "real life" -- or, at the very least, trying to maintain the appearance of one!

Please use this thread to share your experiences -- "what worked for you," if you will -- of past elections and breaking news cycles, in order to help our newest forum members understand what is coming their way -- and the preparations they must make in order to survive and still have somewhat of a life (not to mention brain) in tact after November 5th and the days that follow.

Realizing that new blood brings fresh ideas, us "old-timers" are open to any and all suggestions from any current Freepers who may have a better idea!

This IS the thread for

"Food for Breaking News"

and

"Helpful Household Tips to Free Up Time to Freep."

***Those os you who feel COMPELLED to discuss clothing for Freeping, do so at your own peril.

When FR is down, first thing you do is start a giant pot of CHILI.

Then change the cats box
Vacuum the living room carpet.
Check on the chili
Check FR to see if it's back up
Two shots of whiskey (JD or Chivas)
Check the chili.
Polish the engine covers of your Harley.
Clean your desk.
Pay the bills you found under the old fritos bag on your desk.
Check the Chili.
Check to see if FR is back up.
Wash your truck.
Steal some chili and eat it.
Call girlfriend and ask if shes naked.
If not, check FR again.
Read local online weekly store circulars.
Buy something.
Polish chrome covers on saddlebags and tourpak of your harley.
Check the chili.
Clean one bathroom.
Check FR.
Take a cold shower and a hot shave.
Check to see if exotic dancer neighbor is sunbathing again. (This is also step 3 & step 5)
Take a nap!

Single retired life is good :-)

My day on Tuesday will start at about 4 AM. I will be the election judge in my precinct, so I have to get the polling place ready, put out signs, rope off the 100-foot barrier (no electioneering zone), get the ballots ready, and make sure there is PLENTY of coffee for me and my clerks.

From 7A to 7P, I'll be there making sure that everything goes right and that state law is followed to the letter.

At 7P, I'll take the ballots back to the county seat for counting (with a sheriff's escort), finish up the paperwork, then (maybe) have time to hit the local party's watch party a few blocks away. I am taking champagne, party favors, and my laptop to try to get a few potential Freepers hooked. Hope I get time to use all of them.

So, if I'm not here tomorrow until late, you'll know why.

I forgot to mention in my last post: National Review online did a fabulous job updating the results in the 2000 election, and I plan on keeping their site open in a second window all evening.

I recall vividly the real-time numbers coming in from Florida as the last couple of counties were tallied. The Bush vote margin started at 50,000 or so, and dwindled by the minute to a bit over 2000 before the race was called. I alternated between sweating profusely and shivering from the chills. :-)

LOL! My family got REALLY big, expensive gifts in 2000 because I shopped SO DANG LATE and gave NO THOUGHT to any kind of list! I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and literally bought ONLY stuff that was in the aisle!

I am putting my digital camera in my handbag--but since my area is Republican, I don't think that corruption at the polls will need to be sustected.

Ladies, put that camera in your purses. You never know. You are not allowed to photograph inside the polling places, I am told, but you never know what'll be around the building. It would have been a good thing in 2002 if all Floridians had taken their camcorders with them at least to the doorway of the polling places. It's one thing to be a witness, quite another to have pictures and audio.

Well, during the thirty day nitemare AKA Last Presidential Election, we at one point discussed how one could manage having sex while still on FR and watching the vote count at the same time,,,it was truly hysterical. It involved something about a division of labor with a tv mounted on the ceiling and a laptop. I suggest: snickers bars, frozen, make up your mixed drinks now and freeze them, get a good relationship with the pizza guy, get a comfy pair of jammies and alot of gel to plaster your hair down for the post election recount lawsuits, etc. Board the animals for the duration, floss while you refresh, bubble gum for the really bad times. Everyone who has a spouse, have sex tonite.

AND TO ALL FLORIDA VOTERS THIS IS A MUST:

YOU MUST VOTE OUT FLORIDA SUPREME COURT JUSTICE HARRY LEE ANSTEAD!!!!

He's one of the idiots that created the Algore mess in 2000. Get rid of this bum.

Well, since you're in Missouri, we'll be depending on YOU for local news coverage, i.e., voter fraud.

Let's get started: I just heard on Fox that hear in NC, funeral homes are offering their "family cars" to people for a ride to the polls!

You bought Christmas presents??? That is hysterical, only ones in the aisles. You were better than I who gave checks to the grandkids who were 4 and 6. But I once left a check from the tooth fairy to my youngest, she still talks about it.
