The told-you-so Europeans getting their economic comeuppance. You can't have your anti-American cake and eat it too.

I remember reading an article a couple of years back about how Italy would have to keep inflation below 3% per annum in order to qualify for Euro membership.

I also remember laughing out loud when I read it.

The whole thing was a pipe dream from the beginning.

this is to ignore the fact that there are large sections of opinion in continental Europe that do not share the political and economic attitudes of the Anglo Saxon world one iota

Let's all hoist one for the Anglo-Saxon world.

Month-long vacations, fully paid government health care, unemployment in double digits (no limit on unemployment pay). etc., etc.

These idiots think they can ignore arithmetic.

They are doomed ... to a long depression or worse.

When Kyoto starts taking a bite out of their economies, it will be like pushing down on the accelerator, as they head towards catastrophe.

Larry Kudlow refers to the new currency as the "Europeso".
Isn't any criticism of the EU considered "hate speech" over there?

Micromanagement of every little detail on the whole continent by a collection of bureaucrats in Brussels is only going to result in disaster. Either the Euro's come to their senses or they may fall for yet another demagogue.

Not really; I'll wager that we are going to the same place that Europe is going, albeit via a slightly different route.

This was so easy to see coming, no crystal ball needed.

History repeats itself, again, no one listening, as usual with the Eurotrash.

How can the US capitalize on this and make their situation worse and not hurt us?

hmmm. 1 Euro = .997 dollars.

Sounds like they could almost plug in US stats for everything in that article.

I think the only losers are the germans, whose got shafted by converting to Euros.

In any event, I'm sure they're mad they don't have the dollar rendered worthless. They just might be running scared...no wonder they don't want to allow Turkey in. But then again according to several people on FR, Turkey never has tried to join the EU. In fact they got angry when I mentioned it. weirdos.

They've had it very good for a very long time - the most important statistics on this I've ever seen:

2000 EU population: 380 million

2000 US population: 280 million

2000 EU GDP: 6.4 trillion

2000 US GDP: 10 trillion

In other words, the average European produces $0.49 in value for every $1 an American does.

Turkey is certainly trying to enter the EU. They've applied for membership in the next round of candidates quite publically and officially.

I'll back you up on that.

I thought we'd have to fight harder to convince the British public to leave the EU. And then, well, the Euro zone self-destructs on its own.
