Clinton Hatched Wacky 'Black Ninja' Plot to Get al-Qaeda (Legacy)

Two former Clintonoids are complaining that the Pentagon and FBI blocked Bill Clinton's half-hearted schemes to go after Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda. But the aides' own example of Democrat-style counterterrorism clarifies why there was resistance.

Daniel Benjamin and Steven Simon, "Clinton-era National Security Council experts on terrorism," say that after Clinton's missile attacks on al-Qaeda in Afghanistan "achieved little" in August 1998, he dreamed up this little stunt, the Associated Press reported today:

The prez approached Gen. Hugh Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and said, "It would scare the [expletive] out of al-Qaeda if suddenly a bunch of black ninjas rappelled out of helicopters in to the middle of their camp. It would get us an enormous deterrence and show those guys we're not afraid."

The Pentagon, however, predicted a disaster worthy of Jimmy Carter, who sent helicopters to Iran in hopes of rescuing 52 American hostages. "The result was the incineration of two helicopters and the deaths of eight servicemen," AP noted.

Thus, "Clinton's 'black ninja' plan never got off the ground."

I really don't understand the thinking here. The US Army's 43 Ninja Battalion is an elite fighting force that is commanded by Col. Wilma Deering and Capt. Buck Rogers. They have been trained by Master Yoda himself in the use of the force. their Combat support group is the 73 th mess kit repair battalion which has served the underground balloon corps with honor in the past.....Its beginning to look to me as the Pentagon had in for poor Bill Clinton

I heard this on the radio yesterday and had a hearty laugh.

Poor bill-still trying to save his legacy.

He always blames his ineptitude on someone else-here it is the pentagon and others. Geeeeeez. What a failed so called LEADER.

There have to be documents around to prove this grubby man actually did make an attempt to go after Osama-etc. I mean---he DID BLOW the chance to have Osama handed over to us---just think----if he had been a real leader and taken this opportunity, 9/11 might NEVER have happened.
