War on Iraq could trigger an Armageddon, says daily
Tehran, Nov 14, IRNA -- Thursday's edition of the English-language daily `Kayhan International' warned of "horrendous" consequences of a very likely US-Iraq war on the belligerent sides, the regional and even extra-regional countries.
The paper quoted an evidence-based report from the London-based, highly credible NGO, Medact, as predicting a possible Armageddon in the event the war breaks out, saying that in such an eventuality the death toll could reach staggering proportions, not only owing to the war itself but also due to concomitant factors such as the ensuing "civil war, famine, refugee hordes, economic collapse and epidemics." "Then there are Saddam's anticipated retaliatory measures to reckon with: setting oil wells ablaze, destroying the oil facilities of some of its not-so-neighborly neighbors and using some of his WMDs," Kayhan International reminded.
It pointed to the very real possibility that countries with weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) would decide to use them and things would get out of hand. What would the anti-Iraq coalition be able to do if their adversary decides to use his WMDs in one last fling before he is flung into the recesses of oblivion? asked the daily. Today there are still 30,000 atomic bomb victims lying bedridden in Japan. "Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Chernobyl are all still fresh in the emories of most people," it reminded.
It further quoted Medact as warning that the financial burden of reconstruction would be enormous, a burden too heavy for even the world's economic heavyweights to bear.
Where would the money for reconstruction come from? If international donors are guilty of foot-dragging on their pledges for Afghan reconstruction, is there reason to believe they would be more committed in the event of massive destruction from an invasion of Iraq?, pointed out the daily.
The reliable Medact assessment of the effects of war put the possible death toll at half a million souls. The chillingly down-to-earth report of the prestigious body should serve to remind one and all that war, no matter how justified, should always be avoided to the end.
Apparently the "memory," delivered at Hiroshima and Nagasaki has faded.
If the Rags truely remembered or understood they wouldn't be messing around with the big dog.
Chernobyl was just sloppy communist engineering, not a deliberate act, so didn't have any message other than, "don't hire commies for important jobs,"
(this same message was sent by our people Nov 5th.)
Probably true, but from the effects of old age not a nuclear blast. It has been 57 years after all.
By the time the dust settles Islam will be a lot smaller than at present, they have the most to lose.
And to think the solution to defusing the whole thing is so simple: deal with your extremists yourself, Islam.
Your choices are fear your domestic nutcases, or fear the world powers... your choice, and time is growing shorter and shorter.
