Lost Australian dingo found riding bus
November 18 2002
A pet Australian dingo which vanished during a walk in a Warsaw woodland park earlier this month, has turned up riding a city bus, none the worse for wear, his owners confirmed.
Warsaw residents had been asked to keep an eye out for the seven-year-old dog.
Rust-coloured with trademark pointy bat-ears, the dingo was hard to miss, being the only known dingo on the loose in Poland, the newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza reported.
Owner Adam Stepinski had been concerned about the dog's chances for survival, as he was muzzled when he made his get-away.
However, the dingo managed to rid himself of the muzzle.
Born at the Warsaw Zoo seven years ago, the unwanted dingo was taken home by a zoo employee who then passed him along to Stepinski.
There began a long and sad tale in which the dog, a wild species in Australia, wasnever quite able to warm up to people.
The dingo refused to be house trained and had difficulty relating to his house pet peers, with the exception of the love of his life, a female dachshund.
Stepinski said the dingo defends the dachshund valiantly in skirmishes with other dogs, but the dog has never quite been able to shake his penchant for catching birds and devouring them on the spot.

Dude, those European savages let their dogs ride public transportation, take them into stores and restaurants! My dog is looking over my shoulder reading this as I'm typing and whispering in my ear: "Let's move to Europe, daddy-o!" (I must say, I'm thinking.)

Great story. I have e-mailed it out to my list.
I regret to say that our dog kills birds when he gets the chance, but he doesn't eat them. He managed to nail a Canada goose last summer.

There's this Pollack named John. He opens a petting zoo in Warsaw, but the only two animals he has are a Dingo and a Dachshund. While the business has some initial succcess, interest soon wanes due to the limited variety. After an extensive search, he contracts a German, Gerhard Schmitt, to do some market research and determine what additions they should consider. The following day, the headline of the local business paper reads...
...John, Dachsund, Dingo Hire Schmitt

The dingo ate your baby?
No, I'm sure it didn't...

My dog doesn't bother the birds, but hates squirrels. She has only been able to kill one so far and she had no interest in eating it.
