Clearing the Air: Why we shouldn't call "Liberals" liberal...
Center for the American Founding ^ | 1995 | Balint Vazsonyi

Posted on 11/25/2002 4:06:46 PM PST by amtote

First among these is the word "liberal". We may choose from "marked by generosity", "free from restraint", "not strict or rigorous", or "not narrow in mind", all of which are interpretations in Webster. In the process of tracing the "Liberal Agenda" to its proper origins — the doctrines which gave us the Third Reich and Soviet Russia, Stalin and Hitler — the case may be made that adoption of the label "Liberal" was the initial deception from which all subsequent ones issued. Using that word, as we shall see, is the ultimate insult to the memory of the men whose work had brought forth the great tradition known as "liberal".

Make sure you go to the link and read the rest. I agree with what Dr. Vazsonyi has to say on the matter. You can also go back to the index and read some other articles. Of particular note...the similarities between the Nazis and Communists and the Left...and the misrepresentations of Nazism with those principled in the Right.

OK, how about instead of "liberals", we call them "leftist psychopaths"??

I'm glad to see an article on this topic. The left managed to hijack the dictionary with their control of the media.

Of the many intellectual crimes committed against the young, two deserve special attention. One has to do with students who represent the first generation in their respective families to attend college.

The first indictment of the left. I attended college after 4 years in the Army while still in the Army. The communist drivel that was being taught to my juniors was appalling. I knew enough to keep my mouth shut till I passed the course.

The left managed to hijack the dictionary with their control of the media.

Yes they did, and it was not an accident. The left knew "socialism", "communism", "collectivism", all the "ism's" of the European left would not "Market" well in the USA. Especially to those "Doughboys" and "GI's" returning from Europe"s political spasms. What's more American than "Liberty" and "Liberal"!

The socialists co-opted the word "Liberal", to sell serfdom to America. (right Peter?)

David Horowitz has been explaining for years, the only things the Left is liberal about is Sex and Drugs. He has stated in his Political War manuals that conservatives have been villified by the terms Right and Christian Right. We have to fight back and say, "My colleague from the Left Barney Frank" or "I refer to what my opponent on the Far Left, Maxine Waters said..." They aren't liberals, they're leftists.

An incisive article that requires a full reading.

In a nutshell, Nazis = Liberals, and today's Liberals stand not in the stead of American tradition, culture and law but the intellectual underpinnings of Marx and Hegel.

Truer words were never written, nor (these days) probably more ignored!

I like the suggestion in the article: "Dogmatist". We can even call them "Dogs" for short.

Right on. I think this article demonstrates how a professor is more of a threat to our freedoms than a soldier.

Hitler tells us how important it is, "...not to divide the attention of the people, but to concentrate that attention on a single enemy...it is part of the genius of a great leader...

And thus, white males were designated as the "New Jews".

And therefore, we would be less trouble disarmed.

Hayek, in his book, " Road to Serfdom " wrote about this - he did not see any or much difference between Nazism and Communism. BTW, it is one of the best books I have ever read and I highly recommed Hayek to everyone(but most of you would already know this by now). If I am not mistaken, Hannah Arendt, in her book " The Origins of Totalitarianism", comes to the same conclusion too.

"I refer to what my opponent on the Far Left, Maxine Waters said..."

Exactly! Short accurate sound bytes that don't edit well.

Well said. And the Left knows it. That's why the commies went to the universities.
