PETA Assailed Over 'Turkey Terrorist' Ad
AP ^

Posted on 11/28/2002 6:15:36 PM PST by Dallas

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -

The nation's largest animal rights group is under fire for a television campaign featuring a "turkey terrorist" taking hostages in a supermarket, which is appearing on only one station.

The commercial by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals depicts a store manager being bound and gagged and shoppers taken hostage, while an unseen terrorist threatens to beat, scald and dismember anyone who resists.

The terrorist is revealed to be a turkey puppet, which urges people to stop eating meat.

"I think it is always inappropriate to promote propaganda that puts fear in anyone's mind," said Sherrie Rosenblatt, spokeswoman for the National Turkey Federation.

Norfolk-based PETA did not apologize for the commercial, despite a pledge following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that it would play down its incendiary messages.

"A fake supermarket takeover has zip to do with the events of Sept. 11," spokeswoman Lisa Lange said. "You'd really have to be a big grump not to see the humor in all of this."

Lange said only one television station, in Minnesota, had accepted the commercial.

In Virginia they have ELF vandalizing SUV's. Where's the angry white rigth-wing militants? What gives?

Shouldn't CBS be running their 10,000th news report on left-wing extremism?

In 1989, some dweeb from PeTA was on CNN (either Crossfire or Larry King Live) promoting following of hunters during deer season - to scare the deers away from the hunters. I was at a plant startup in Port Arthur TX at the time.

My first thought - Right PeTA person, why don't you do that in east Texas or southwest Louisiana, go follow Messrs. Thibideaux and Boudreaux on the there deer lease. As an added bonus, ya might get invited to go gator huntin' with Monseiur Fontenot at one of the bayous. Now what to use for gator bait?

They're too busy writing their 100,000th story about us thin-skinned right wing wackos who can't take what we dish out..

There was a report on the local news last night about two wild turkeys that are following a postwoman and harrasing her when she gets out of her postal vehicle. She has taken to carrying a staff to protect herself from them.Fish and Wildlife has tried to catch them. But they are too quick to catch, they claim. This might bring the turkey hunters out-this woman needs protection and these turkeys are hampering the delivery of the US mail.Mmm Mmm.

She should know, that a way to a turkey's heart is through his gobble. She should toss down some corn as a diversion, or garnish them with pepper spray.

Since PETA has admitted financially supporting ELF and ALF and has applauded their bombings and arson of US government, corporate, and individual property to the tune of over $90,000,000 in damages and also helped cause the loss of dozens of firefighters lives, billions of $s in forest lands, and actually killed untold millions in wildlife deaths I wonder about this scenario:

Homes.

Offices.

Vehicles.

Of PETA & Friends are suddenly *"humorously zip"!
