It's no slight against you or your country, but obviously Nigeria had beauty contests as well to pick their beauty queen who won last year.

I am not suggesting that Turkey will explode, but I am suggesting that the organisers of the Miss World competition have a motivation to seek controversy. That's all.

Take it up with the organisers. I am suggesting that Miss World didn't get that much attention before the business in Nigeria, and now it's widely watched - they may try it on with your country next.

What are they going to do? Have someone say the same thing in Turkey? I heard the comment and just laughed. It was an innocent and harmless remark. The fact that those Nigerians somehow took it as blasphemy and decided to use it as pretext to settle old rivalries among tribes has nothing to do with my country. I read nothing about this 'controvercial' statement in Turkish newspapers until the death toll reached something around 150 or so and the papers had to give the excuse behind the killings. The only time in recent memory when Nigeria had come up on the front page of Turkish newspapers was when the sharia court decided to stone Amina Lawal to death. The news raised great shock, protest marches were made, the Minister of Justice and the Foreign Ministry officially condemned the verdict and protested with demands for immediate fair retrial and release. We have held and won dozens of beauty pageants in Turkey before. This one will be no different.

Sorry it was in 1932 by the way, not 1934. 1934 was when the Civil Law was passed giving men and women equal political and social rights years before a lot of European countries.

Clearly, Miss Holland is the most beautiful on the list, followed closely by Miss Norway and Miss South Africa (I'm somewhat shocked that she is white....would've thought that it'd be a century or two before a white gal would represent SA--assuming that there are any left there by then). And Miss Yugoslavia gets honorable mention.

Well, I always have a lot of fun in everything I do. I don't know if that's because I'm brunette… I have no idea. I just like to be happy and feel the same way. Not everything is fun of course, I've had some sad and down moments also, but I don't let it get me down. It's just a way of thinking, I guess.

Some of these girls are very lovely indeed, and may someday be great beauties. Others look as though they were registered with the American Kennel Club. None of them is the most beautiful woman in the world; none has the beauty imparted by a bit of maturity and intelligence. It's very difficult to understand how some of them got chosen for a contest for "most beautiful."

I think a really fair beauty contest would be one in which all the constestants had to appear with freshly-washed faces, their hair hanging down, wearing nothing but a very minimal string bikini.

Nope, I'm a woman, and a man-loving straight-as-a-ruler woman, too. But I used to be a model, and I have friends who are prettier than some of the bow-wows in this contest; I see women just as pretty in church every Sunday. The difference is, the local gals aren't slathered with makeup by professional makeup artists, and they aren't being carefully lit, posed, photographed, and retouched as these beauty pageant competitors are.

If anyone walks around NYC, they'd notice gobs more beautiful women.

Or anywhere in the U.S., actually. I really believe that America has the most lovely women in the world, if only because we have a higher number of dentists and orthodontists.

Still waiting for the Pageant to apologize for the statements they made against the author of the newspaper article, statements that were sympathetic to rioting Muslim terrorists who killed Christians.

The winners if they have any class should resign the crowns.

And out of the three women they show winning, the third place Miss Peru is better looking than the other two, but she is a loser if she doesn't trash the crown and resign.
