GORHAM, Maine (AP) If you overlook the ''No smoking beyond this point'' sign outside Harlan A. Philippi Hall, you won't miss the ''No Smoking'' signs on light posts leading up to the dormitory.
But if you do, the signs at the dorm's entrance ''This is a smoke-free building'' are hard to ignore.

Tyler Stanley, a senior and a member of the Student Senate, said some students think the new policies are Draconian, and are being pushed by anti-smoking zealots. He thinks further restrictions are unnecessary.

The three deadly sins of the PC world are smoking, being fat and being old. Avoid these and you too can belong to t he educated upper class.

The University of Southern Maine in September banned smoking in its dorms, forcing smokers to trek at least 50 feet away from the buildings to light up. These students would have better luck making porn films in their dormitory rooms. :-/

It's a different story on campus. According to a Harvard School of Public Health study, 29 percent of college students smoked in 1999, a 28 percent jump since 1993.
Couldn't have any relationship to the increased stresses of living in a Liberal/Nazi hate-filled environment could it?
Someone should do a study... like the Heritage Foundation or the Cato Institute.

Couldn't have any relationship to the increased stresses of living in a Liberal/Nazi hate-filled environment could it? I just wish everyone in the US would wake up to what is happening here. It's all about control. And "they" found out this is a good way to "control" 25-30% of their students, who are, after all, adults. I wonder how many will be moving off campus? It's really sad.
Tobacco is legal. If it's so bad, why has it been legal for so many years and years and years......

"A handful have created designated smoking areas a significant change from the usual no-smoking areas."
To: KS Flyover

Well, what'll hurt more? the cig or standing out in the cold shivering.
Sometimes, i think the real reason Europeans in particular don't like America is because of the smoking laws. Imagine being a Japanese businessman, paying a lot for a meal and then not being allowed to light up. Or constantly being harassed trying to light up. Or the ultimate - no smoking at a bar.
Do you think the smoking is good for national security and making friends would go over well with the executive dept.

Of course I don't mind.

Owning a gun (or at least admitting such) is even a greater sin than smoking in the pc world.
To: Austin Willard Wright
Stand by for taxes on the gun SIN.

Since Bloomberg wants to make New York City smoke free, I have heard already that the Japanese and the Europeans want to go elsewhere to conduct their business. I hope they do!
I don't know where that will be, though, since all the states want to "keep up with Kookifornia!"
