I received the 2002 Whitehouse Christmas card (postmarked Crawford, Tx.) and wanted to share it with any and all.

You have hit the nail on the head...there are many who do not believe in Jesus Christ. The number is growing and the Whitehouse "Christmas" card an example of it, albeit a small example. Jesus Christ is under attack from a sly dog called PC tolerance propogated by the Dems and the ACLU.

A lot of people have criticized this card because Christ is absent, but I'm not so sure. The inside of the card says, "The Lord is good," probably replacing the Tetragrammaton with Lord. Now, to (most) Trinitarians and Modalists who make up the vast majority of practicing Christians, Jesus is the Lord. So believers should see Christ in there, very clearly. "A rose by any other name," and all that. Arians would say that Jesus is not "the Lord," but the Church worked very hard to get rid of them some centuries back.

Did you know that last year President and Mrs. Bush were the FIRST presidential couple to put ANY scriptural reference on their card at all? The 1995 Clinton Christmas card had a picture of the Dynamic Duo cheesily grinning in front of a Christmas tree. No scripture. I suppose you would like that one BETTER because it had a CHRISTMAS tree.

Here is what President Bush said at the CHRISTMAS Tree lighting:

"For over two millenia, Christmas has carried the message that God is with us," the president said. "And because He's with us, we can always live in hope."

Now, please find something else to carp about. It seems to me that you are one of those glass half-empty people.

why don't we just abolish Christmas and call it the winter festival? wouldn't that be the PC thing to do? Christmas is the Lord's birthday and that is why we are celebrating. Political correctness is going to ruin this nation.

thanks for posting this, i was wondering about that. i was pleasantly shocked and surprised to see the scriptural reference on this card and then astounded to read the criticisms on this thread of it not being ENOUGH! can you IMAGINE a christmas card with a scripture verse on it from the satanic duo?

And it would be a joke to actually believe that 90% of Americans are Christians!

Well, I understand your criticism, but we are a republic and not a theocracy. The president recognizes that fact and acts accordingly. We all know he is a man of God so there's no need for him to be boastful about it. "Man looks at the outer being, but God looks at the heart." Merry CHRISTmas!

It saddens my heart that we are taking Christ out of Christmas in the name of tolerance and inclusion.

"Tolerance and Inclusion" are only thinly disguised excuses for the elimination of Christianity from the U.S.

A morally weak Congress has gone along with those who have established "Secular Humanism" ( a nicer name for Paganism ) as the official religion of the United States. Christmas is being morphed into "Winter Holiday" and Easter into "Spring Festival." New holidays such as "Earth Day" are arising to take their place.

It's not a Christmas card. Christmas isn't mentioned.

George W Bush is the president of all Americans, not just Christian Americans.

I am a Christian, and I find the card in very good taste. It's simple, understated, and has a lovely scripture.

I am sorry that George W didn't have enough time to run down to Hallmark and find just the perfect little card for you, but he found the perfect card for all Americans. So don't act so meshuga, it's got me plotzing and verklepmt.

You imply intolerance by expecting GWB to send out cards stating Merry Christmas, when in fact there are many in this nation who don't believe in Jesus Christ.

There are many who don't believe Islam is the religion of peace but that doesn't stop him from saying it. It is Christmas. There is no other way to describe it even if you don't celebrate it. Christmas is no longer simply a religious holiday. Even atheists celebrate Christmas.

I would have liked a more Christmas like card but I do remember that President Bush is the leader of all Americans. His predecessor was the liberal Democrat's President so we still have to be aware that it's not just "our turn" as much as we hate to admit it.

Although the card did not mention Christmas, it did have a line from scripture.

Psalm 100:5.

"For the Lord is Good; His Mercy is Everlasting;

And His Truth Endureth To All Generations."

In my eyes that is a true Christmas message.

A simple card saying Merry Christmas, Happy Hannakuh and Happy New Year would have been fine. The racists celebrate Festum but that doesn't mean GW has to acknowledge it. Everyone knows it is Christmas in America just like everyone knows Oct 31 is Halloween. Ignoring it is petty and pandering to fringe groups.

So the all knowing and all seeing president is supposed to know who is Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddist, Wiccan, Kwanza, Atheist, and send each the appropriate card?

It's a card, a simple, elegant card. Not for one moment did I get all in a huff when I opened my card and say " oh well, this is not for Christmas. This is an outrage and an affront to Christ and all humanity."

Because you know, in the big scheme of life, it's not all about YOU.
