Mudboy -- I have to say, the more I think about Flyer's posts, and how Flyer played on others, like what Flyer did with humblegunner's and with aquamarines, how Gilligan was just everywhere, it was very funny and amusing and gingerbreadhouse-y. Flyer was very witty and posted in real time, often coming up with cheerful and silly and very holiday-ish posts rapidly so that they integrated well into the narrative of the thread. (Hee hee, you can see I went to college where I took myself some of those English courses.)

The more I think about it, Mud, the more I really like Flyer's and GailA's the most. It's *so* hard. Maybe Diver Dave's too and Sweetliberty's family roots house. Dave did at least *try* to bribe us . . . .

I really love *all* of our finalists. But Flyer's almost golden-retriever-like personality, bouncing through the thread and giving good cheer everywhere, and GailA's wonderfully focussed, beautifully detailed gingerbread house with the American flag . . . . The more I reflect, the more I find myself focussing on those two. Tgsltakoma's second photograph is very very good, but is it better than GailA's?

We can have Honorable mentions etc. In a pinch, I have enough gifts for a tie for first place and another tie for second, with additional honorable mentions which wouldn't have gifts.

But in the real world, if we're not to be wimps, someone should come in officially first.

I think and I think and I still am thinking that Flyer and GailA are near the top. BUT it's very hard and they're all close. Mudboy, if you told me that any on my finalist list was THEE one and you were sure about it, I'd follow you off that cliff. 'Cause it really is close. So I'm open to persuasion.

Tara -- Thanks very much for the chat room offer. Since we're not having people continue to the party here (I was worried about interferring with today's thread, but that's not happening), I'm just as happy to discuss it publicly with Mud in this thread when he's ready. That way you'll all be privy to how whimsical the judging is and there will be less hard feelings! :D We're just not going to take it *that* seriously!! as I pretty much assured people at the outset of the contest.

Flyers not the only one with a cute dog.

Yeah, but flyer's house came with that train and also the animated people . . . .

I can almost see it now . . . .

Aquamarine's house was the most delicious-looking and she was definitely a good sport throughout too.

Balata, I'm kinda deferring to Mudboy on the musical merits of your entry -- I'm not sure what the song is about.

This is really hard.

Hey, I was just trying some humor and have some fun. That was just a take off on George Strait's song,"All My Ex's Live In Texas". I guess you'd have to be a C&W fan. #;^)

Having fun is what it's all about! I just say I'm kinda deferring to Mudboy 'cause I don't know music as well as him. I do LOVE THE ROOF though!

P.S. Tell me the truth. What did you think of Flyer's train? Did you see it before Gilligan ate it? Was it prettier than GailA's 252?

Kayak's entry (Bush White House 2001 gingerbread house) should be considered along with the close up of the cute pet.

ROTFLOL! Nice try counselor. You're not drawing me into the middle of the judging. LOL! I think everyone did a great job of posting and having fun. I don't envy your job, it's really tough.

You, Billie and MUD have done a great job and I commend and congratulate you all. You're pretty brave stepping out on the limb with MUD!! LOL! Good Luck All!!

At the risk of offending some very worthy participants in this wonderful contest, I'm going to attempt to winnow my favorites down to three:

1. GailA's scrumptious-looking gingerbread house on #252 has got to be one of the finalists...I could chow down on that one right now if it was in fron of me!!

2. Ms. Takoma's second submittal in post #403 also gives me hunger pangs, as I'm a sucker fer chocolate and icing and also like the little gingerbread folks out front.

and...

3. Sweetliberty's post #99 has got to be in there 'cuz that one was actually created by a genuine FReeper, which counts fer a lot in my book!! If either of the first two were actually created by the FReepers that posted them, I'd have to give either #1 or #2 the nod, but otherwise, I'm leaning towards post #99.

Now, FTH, you have earned the right to overrule me because you've done such a great job keeping this thread on track despite my part-time participation...just let me know what you think and I'll abide by yer final ruling.

Kudos to ALL who participated by offering entries of humorous asides...this has been really fun and I consider everyone involved to be weiners.

LOL and FReegards...MUD

BTW...xJones' entry at #44 definitely deserves an honorable mention but I haveta deduct points fer the pretzel fence not being chocolate-covered...LOL!!

OK, I'm moving in swift and fasts and pointing at the winning entries like they do in dog contests, before anyone can contest! I like your analysis and your reasons. And I'm calling them out of the box as follows, and I'll repost this announcement in today's Freeper Finest thread, as soon as I patch in the links so that people can go view them:

First prize: SweetLiberty: the book of your choice -- Lynne Cheney's or Carlo3b's -- your call.

Second prize: GailA: whichever book SweetLiberty doesn't want

Third prize: Tgsltakoma: a lovely scenic 2003 Wall Calendar with pictures of America

Honorable Mention (no gift but lots of fame and glory):

Flyer (we're still not sure we believe you ever made the 30-foot high house with the moving train and animated people!)

xJones (deadly failure to ensure that the pretzels were chocolate-coverd)

Aquamarine (music and sweet stuff, great combination!)

Diver Dave (great political analysis!)
