At the same time, I still believe we need to make it significantly harder for people to walk or drive across our southern and northern borders. Start with the areas of highest traffic and proceed from there.I'd go further, and revoke any current visas and greeen cards, except for the spoouses and dependent children of US citizens.
I'd definitley increase border enforcement, but not with troops. I'd double current enforcement in both manpower and resources, and cut a lot of the red tape. OTH, setting aside the political unviability of the idea, I also wouldn't kid myself into thinking that Fortress America is going to prevent determined terrorists from bringing in WMDs. How would we secure the coastlines?
As for the Illegals, I'm convinced the key is to tackle the problem in the American interior. Start chasing them out expeditiously, and give new Illegals less incentive to come here. I posted a few ideas at #77. Incoming border crossings will drop like a rock.
