Lott Should Stay On ...
Vanity

Much as I simply don't want him for Majority Leader, and much as I consider him incredibly stupid and weak-kneed, I think he should hold on until this issue has died down ... and then he should give up the Majority Leader position. Trent is being very publicly lynched before our eyes. The Left and their media allies are not just trying to get him to give up his position as Majority Leader, they're are trying to get him to resign from the Senate in disgrace.
The Governor of MS is a Democrat and he would get to appoint Lott's replacement if he goes. If Lott had been from a state with a GOP governor, this issue would be well on its way to dormancy (not death). Just for that, I think Lott should step down after this has died down and McConnell, Nickles, Santorum or Craig should be revving to plunk the "Majority Leader" sign on their desks. It is no longer an option for him, Lott has to step down because his political capital and utility has been all but spent or thrown away by this incandescently stupid act.
To be honest, Lott should have been replaced a very long time ago. But not now. Not when he's being lynched by the Democrats and their media whores. He is a good Conservative, but he's a bad Leader, that's all. He should finally get a spine and weather this storm until it has died down. It won't last much beyond the New Year. Then after a quiet month as Majority Leader, he makes way. He already has his name in the history books.
Because if he allows himself to be railroaded out, it would only embolden the Left and their media whores. The guy who takes over from him would be their next target. The new Majority Leader would suddenly find himself being hounded for naming his son David because the Presstitutes would immediately insinuate that it was "in honor of David Duke".
Funny thing is, if Lott had a third of the cojones of Kay Bailey Hutchison, (or 5% of DeLay's / Helms') there would have been an army of defenders out there shoring up his reputation and demolishing the Left for daring to call him a racist. I'm sure he must be thinking; " ... if only I had balls ..."

Lott should spit in everyone's spitoon.
He misspoke and apologized. Let it be.

"McConnell, Nickles, Santorum or Craig should be revving to plunk the "Majority Leader" sign on their desks. "
Add Jon Kyl to your list,he looks and acts like he could punch out the lights of any who got in his way and I don't think he comes with a pair of pom poms.

I totally agree with you. This is the best way out for Lott and the rest of the GOP.

His apology has been accepted by this Freeper (and I'm black!). I think Republicans have by and large forgiven him for his mis-statement.
Now it's simply a business decision. He has not been productive in the first place and now he's a liability in so far as he remains Leader.
It ain't personal ... it's strictly business.
PS: He could do something really cool though and take this issue off the table. He could announce that he is defecting to the Democrats. He would be accepted with open arms and the issue would disappear in seconds.
The New York Times would run articles praising his "incredible courage". THEN after the Presstitutes have finished congratulating themselves on a job well done, he'd switch back. The Press would not be able to bring up the issue again without betraying their hypocrisy.

To be honest, Lott should have been replaced a very long time ago.I've never understood why his senate colleagues selected him to be their leader to begin with.
But the vile hypocrisy and race-baiting machinations of the left disturb me enough that I almost feel compelled to defend the bumbleheaded twit.

That would be the coolest of the kewl move. Too bad it won't happen.

Is it me, or can his comments be made to mean something else as well. Sure, Thurmond was a racist back in his day but he did evolve over time. And he had other planks when he ran for president: State's Rights, a low federal tax burden and a low balanced federal budget. Could it not be assumed he may have been referring to these? Why is it always race?

I am no fan of Lott, but I would rather be boiled in hot oil then see him buckle under this rat-baited hypocritical baloney. Furthermore, I have been wondering if what he meant is look at the mess desegregation has left our public school system in. Bussing has been a total failure. IMO, desegregation of our schools has NOT been the cureall it was touted.

But the vile hypocrisy and race-baiting machinations of the left disturb me enough that I almost feel compelled to defend the bumbleheaded twit. That's entirely understandable. The last thing I want to do is grant Jesse and Al the satisfaction of seeing Lott step down as majority leader. But in the end, the joke's gonna be on them, if we get a replacement that doesn't have Lott's trait of lying down in front of Daschle's office with WELCOME stenciled across his back.

Yeah, I'm kinda wit ya. Nothings gonna happen over the next few weeks anyway. Let it die down a bit. But I tell you. McConnell, Nickles or someone better challenge this dumbass in Jan.

he had other planks when he ran for president: State's Rights, a low federal tax burden and a low balanced federal budget. Could it not be assumed he may have been referring to these? Why is it always race? Because the Liberals painted it that way from the start, and since they control the media, they get to state the terms of every debate. If we fail to contest the terms at the outset, the sheeple take the liberals word for it.

They hounded out Ginrich and Livingston. Don't let the RATS and their Presstitute sock puppets succeed again, just remember their moral standing is less than zero as they proved with thier unexcusable defense of Clinton
