No question the Democrats have seized on an opening, stuck the knife in and are now twisting it, but it's about more that just PBA.

The trial balloon was, "Lott should step down as majority leader". That balloon floated magnificently, beyond their wildest dreams, aided by hot air from his own fellow Republicans.

The next trial balloon, already in the whispering stages, will be, "Lott should resign his seat." Lott might just up and do that, returning the Senate to 50-50.

Warning to GOP: Stop the piling on or you might just find yourself negotiating with Puff over control of the Senate again.

Your beginning to sound pretty desparate to invent stuff about NOW being after Lott. As much as a doofus as he is I would think they would have Dascles early inclination (i.e., to let it slide) since Lott is so easy to roll.

You are right. The President should be ashamed, and all Republicans should stand behind Lott till this storm passes.

I just heard that Sam's Club is having a sale on aluminum foil in case lots. You might want to stock up while it's cheap so you can make a fresh hat every day.

Sorry, couldn't agree with you less. Your position is that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". Lott is being attacked by the Left for this. So, since the Left is my enemy, I should stand by Lott. Doesn't work like that. Lott's words were wrong. Words mean things. They are important.

If the people of Mississippi want him as their Senator, that's up to them. If they want to recall him, so be it. But I am fine with calling on other Republican leaders - including my 2 Republican Senators - to do what ever they can to make sure that Lott is not the leader of the Senate.

Long term, I think this issue is very helpful for the Right. We have another opportunity to forcefully inject a discussion of character in to the national dialogue. What is right? What is good conduct? It starts with Lott. It doesn't have to end there. Demands for impeccable character from our leaders can produce a whole new framework for discussions of such issues as personal responsibility. Who will benefit from such a national dialogue the most? Conservatives! WE are the party of personal responsibility.

The future of America is integrated. If conservatives want to be the party of that future, we should have no tolerance for bigots - or even those who make bigoted remarks - as our national spokesmen.

Lott is a moron who thinks he can be some kind of sheperd with a broad voice. Such is not the case. The man must be kept in the barn, but he certainly has shown he cannot lead the flock. it is not about throwing him to the wolves, it is about moving on, enough said.

This is perhaps the most far out left-field explanation for criticism against Trent Lott. I haven't heard about a single person from NOW weighing in on this. Have you ever thought that maybe it is aliens in Roswell, NM, who really have it in for Lott. Or maybe if you ask the John Birchers, they would tell you it was the Zionists again. This has nothing to do with abortion! Lott has failed his party during his tenure as GOP leader in the Senate and his recent remarks don't endear him either. The President worked very hard to get a majority in the Senate, as did many of the candidates who won hotly contested close elections. Lott stands to ruin all that with his business as usual attitude. It is time for the Senate to have better leadership.

NO. IT'S NOT ABOUT PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTIONS.

It is the Demoncrats attempt to make Lott resign and have the Gov of Missippi appoint a Demoncrat replacement, giving control of the Senate back to Daschole.

It is subversion of the results of the last election. The Demoncrats refuse to give up power.

Baloney. I sent an email to my Republican Senator this morning asking him to support a different leader, AND I support a PBA. The only way to get a PBA through is to get a different majority leader.

So from your research, have you been able to determine Senator Frist's position on PBA? He is the president's choice to replace Senator Lott, isn't he?

I've heard he's for the ban, and I've heard he's against it. Realistically in today's society, PBA is the only pro-life legislation that has a chance to pass, so it's important to nail this down.

TLB, when you support Lott, you are supporting Partial Birth Abortion. Lott is ineffective right now, he won't be able to get PBA passed (it would be "insensitive" to women, and he's very "sensitive" about these things right now).

By taking a pro-Lott stand, you are taking a pro-abortion stance. Which isn't surprising, considering so many liberal Democrats want him to stay.

Apparently you think it's more important that Lott stays in the Senate than it is to ban PBA.
