Rodney King? In response to certain parties burning half of LA, and threatening to burn the other half if they didn't get their way, they got some LOCAL cops.
My question was, and remains, "Can anybody here think of a case where a federal LEO was successfully put in jail for violating a private citizen's civil rights in the course of doing his job?"

Q: What is more important: Efficiency or Mass?
A: Depends on the country's wealth. Beware though, roughly speaking, "efficiency" beat "mass" in Korea and Vietnam. Using more bombs in Vietnam than WW2 did not win that war.
Q: How does the nation generate wealth?
A: A better question would be, "How much are taxpayers willing to pay?"
Q: What is more preeminent: Offensive or Defensive firepower?
A: Broadly speaking, offense, due to surprise, initiative, etc. 2 exceptions: urban warfare, and M.A.D.
Q: How do you use information to pull it all together?
A: Read history. Lessons of past battles are great teachers.
Also, read John Poole or Bill Lind on Manuever (common-sense) warfare and small-unit tactics. Brilliant.

I agree. I mentioned Waco a few weeks ago to a co-worker, and she said "that's ancient history." IMO -- it's a lesson to be learned and not forgotten -- government is "like fire, a dangerous servant and a fearful master." (I don't know who said it, but it's true.)

Knew it was one of the founders:
"Government is not reason; it is not eloquence; it is force! Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." George Washington.
Or, as Neal Boortz likes to say, government is the only institution in our society allowed to compel behavior at the point of a gun. If you don't believe it, try not paying your taxes.

For an a grunt's eye view of Waco and Ruby Ridge, read "Cold Zero, Memoirs of an FBI Sniper," by Chris Whitcomb. Much of it deals with those two incidents.
There's probably a lot you would disagree with, but Whitcomb says has a perspective worth at least considering...and his credentials would stand FR scrutiny, I think. Before the joining the FBI, he was a speechwriter for a Republican Congressman, and was an NRA member and supporter of the 2nd Amendment. (Although I infer from the book that he's no longer in the NRA...he felt a bit betrayed by some of the rhetoric coming from the RKBA movement aftermath of Waco/RR).

I believe it completely. I wish more people did.

The quote is, "Government, like fire, is an excel;ent servant but a fearful master." The man who said it was George Washington.

I read that book when it came out, and it's definitely worth the time.

I've read a copy at the libary because I won't spend a dime to put money in that guys pocket. As he was "just following orders" ya know.......
These days folks can justify anything. In their own mind of course. That nutcase Koresh could have been arrested 10 times over downtown Waco yet the BatFags decided to do the budget dog and pony show at the risk cost of those kids lives. Kids ...the only really innocent humans on this earth for the most part IMO.
Stay safe !
