Fliers seeking information about 11-year-old Kahealani Indreginal, missing since Tuesday, were posted around her 'Aiea community before today's discovery of a body believed to be the girl.

Police announced this afternoon that they have discovered a body believed to be that of Kahealani Indreginal, 11, who has been missing since Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the body was found near the 'Aiea Loop Trail about 2 p.m today. The body was found by a hiker, who called police.

Honolulu police officer Joe Self made a tentative identification based on appearance and the clothing on the body.

Police said they are not focusing on anyone in particular who may have been responsible for the death.

"As of yet, we have no suspects in mind," said Darryl Perry, police major in the criminal investigation division.

Police are still on the scene, an area accessible from the trail.

Detectives ask anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on Tuesday afternoon connected to Kahealani's disappearance to call police.

Earlier today, search teams with dogs walked portions of the Pearl Harbor bike path near McGrew Point as police continued looking for the girl.

Police also returned earlier today to Kahealani's Makalapa housing project near Aloha Stadium to look for clues into her disappearance. They spent most of yesterday searching the area around the Pu'uwai Momi complex without success.

No clues surfaced by mid-day despite an intense police sweep yesterday of mountains, streams, hiking trails and surrounding neighborhoods.

And I thought we were relatively safe from this type of thing... My kids have been hiking many times with a church group on the trail where the body was found.

I hope when they find the guilty party (at least it's harder to flee here) they throw him into the general prison population. Even the worst prisoners here value the keiki; I imagine they'll give him an "interesting" time.

A heinous case indeed. I pray the HPD will eventually catch the sicko.

With all due respect to the young girl, do you think that is what she would want?

Was she in favor of corporal punishment? I'm sure she understood the concept of death, as her punisher killed her.

Never, anyone at anytime think life in prison is worse than the death penalty, it is not.

However many times the prison population takes thier due from this child killer it doesn't equal the one time he has to face god, and his judgement!

Give him to god as quick as possible, so he doesn't pollute us further.

God bless this child, an angel, given to us to in glory, yet taken away in unknown horror. In Jesus' name I pray, never again.

Hawaii doesn't have the death penalty - we've had single-party rule for the past 40 years, totally, thoroughly, disgustingly liberal. (Thank goodness people are slowly coming to their senses). If we had the death penalty, I'd be all for it in this case - it would ensure he never did it again.

I just read they have a suspect. Now they think she was stabbed in order to steal the Hawaiian gold bracelets she was wearing. One has to wonder at the wisdom of giving an 11-year-old several hundred dollars' worth of gold to wear on a regular basis. Each bracelet runs $300-500, and she was supposedly wearing at least 4.

Plus either dressing her up or allowing her to dress herself as a streetwalker. Druggies don't know the difference when so high.

Now where did THAT come from? From what I read she was wearing a long-sleeved shirt and pants. Since when is that "streetwalker" garb? Or is that how they dress on the Islands?

I just assumed that your state had the death penalty, I have never lived in a state that did'nt, and took it for granted.

In that case I hope they put him in the general population, but I doubt it. He will be in PC until he is released or dies. But we can always hope he tries to be a Dahmer and refuses segregation.

They now have two under arrest - one is the boyfriend of the girl's sister, another is apparently a vagrant. The local news had video of him standing with the family a day or two after she disappeared, holding a big photo of her. As a friend mentioned today, the main reason someone would stab a child in a robbery like that would be because she could easily identify him... that was it.

Still infuriating that parents living in subsidized housing with 8 kids would buy a least $1-2K of jewelry for the kid and let her wear to school and around the neighborhood (not one of the safest, at least re property crime, in the area).
