Alas, they both got there! - Your point was still a good one.

You know, it's funny. I have two brand-new sets of the Hobbit and Trilogy, still in their gift box, one from last year, and one from a few years ago.
I have read the trilogy (and The Hobbit) at least six times that I can think of, maybe even more--twice these past four years-- and I dig up those old paperbacks every time.
It's really funny that as often as I have actually read those books, I'm not a Tolkien trivia master.

LC: Yes, I should have mentioned that your points were good ones as well. I don't want to come across as a part of the Grammar Police. ;^)

What does anyone mean when they say "Alas!" I have never tried to define it! I guess it means "at any rate", or "nevertheless", or "I guess the point is"!

I wasn't really expecting an answer. I was just ribbin' ya. ;^)

It's really funny that as often as I have actually read those books, I'm not a Tolkien trivia master. I am not either really... The main story is easy to follow, but I get lost in names of places and people and legends of old that are mixed in throughout. Tolkien's habit of giving everything four names doesn't help! I had to get my facts straight only when I started discussing them here a year ago, and I still get things wrong.

For pete's sake kevin, speak plainly! I am too hyper for subtle humor today!

And here he is portraying a "kid" involved in a homosexual (menage a trois) affair: Entertainment News: Much Moore of Mandy: Squeaky-clean pop princess Mandy Moore (pictured) is joining Britney Spears on the "not-that-innocent" road. In the upcoming flick "Try Seventeen," Moore, the songbird star of "A Walk to Remember," will play a girl who gets involved in an anything-goes threesome with her neighbors, played by "Run Lola Run's" Franka Potente and "Lord of the Rings" star Elijah Wood. The film centers on Wood's character, Jones Dillon, a 17-year-old college freshman who discovers there's more to be learned in his own apartment building than in the lecture hall. In classic Tinseltown fashion, Moore was Wood's real-life paramour prior to the film, but his affections have reportedly switched to Potente, and the two have been an item ever since.
That's not homosexual on Elijah Wood's part... You *are* aware that Franka Potente is a *woman*, aren't you?
The scenario in the film is a guy (Wood) involved with two women.

Heh... I was gonna point that out too, but I figured the distinction wouldn't much matter ;~D

Other than that why would a straight person even want to go to such a bar? To listen to the music?
*************************
Actually, yes. The dance music and the DJs in gay bars do tend to be better, more interesting and experimental. the same stuff filters out to the mainstream in six months, but the really new stuff tend to be played at the gay bars first.
At least that was the case when I was in college in the 80's. It was no big deal, just a good place to go dancing and listening to what's new in club music.

Oh I have used alas to replace a sigh! - Which can be a pleasant or unpleasant sigh! You say it is only negative?
To: Liberal Classic
It also contains two more DVDs that detail the making of the film, which is interesting in its own right. IMHO this is the best DVD set ever made. The amount of "making of" information included is staggering. I love that sort of thing and enjoyed the second two disks almost as much as the first. Remarkable how much planning went into making those movies.

You *are* aware that Franka Potente is a *woman*, aren't you? And what a woman! Run, Lola Run is a must see.
To: HairOfTheDog
You say it is only negative? I didn't say it. It came straight from dictionary.com.
But, in answer to your question; As far as I know it is only used in a negative sense.

It was Tolkien who converted CS Lewis to Christianity. Tolkien was a devout Catholic his entire life.
