"Mayor Bloomberg should shut up!"
Whether Toussaint spoke from arrogance, ignorance or both isn't important; the point is that he is animated by the notion that the needs and desires of his membership trump the vital interests of the citizens of New York City and the millions of commuters who help sustain this vital - and now profoundly troubled - metropolis.

I can walk to much of what I absolutely need to do for work. It will make playtime a little more difficult, but I'm happy to be inconvenienced for a few days if it helps break this idiotic union. Bring it on.

Time for Roger Toussaint to pull out the RACE Card, after all Mayor Bloomberg is a Republician.

He's already pulled it. I saw him in an interview saying the reason Blomberg is being so tough on the union is because so many of its members belong to minorities. He played his race card a little early in the game.

Hey, that's only 60 metro rides. Not a bad deal.

After 9/11 and the '99 strike, it's just nice to have as a back up. Being at the mercy of public trans here can suck sometimes. I don't even want to think about the 1980 strike.

The union is also engaging in class warfare (what a shock!).
Have you heard the radio ads that the union is playing? They claim that union is fighting against any increase in fares, but of course they want more money from the city so their wages can be raised. Where is money the supposed to come from to make their proposals work? Although they won't come out and say it I'm sure the union feels that raising taxes on commuters from outside the city is the solution, that, and jacking up taxes on "the rich" in the city. This shouldn't come as surprise since Toussaint has a history of supporting Socialists in his native Trinidad.

If the TWU strikes, Mayor Mike should immediately announce that there are 34,000 jobs available at the Transit Authority.

How do you plan to get around if there's a strike? I won't be going to work, that's for sure. I live over 20 miles from my job in Manhattan, work nights, and normally drive to work. Bloomberg's stupid 4 to a car carpool rule will keep me at home.

A'ight. Here it goes:
Plan A: See how much the temporarily deregulated Jitney guys on 86th Street in Brooklyn plan to charge to take me to midtown.
Plan B: Take a (non-MTA) shuttle bus to the 59th Street pier by the Brooklyn Army Terminal. From Pier 11 in the Financial district, I understand I can get a free shuttle bus to take me to the west side.

"Mayor Bloomberg should shut up!" For once I agree with with Toussaint re: Bicycle Boy Blunderberg.
