Why do you suppose Nickles didn't run? Was Lott perhaps held up as an example?

Al D'amato considers Frist a "moderate."

Yeah, yeah, must be some skull and crossbones tri-lateral commission NWO blackmail thing. Maybe Kissinger resigned so as to be able to put the hammer to Nickles and any other "true" conservative.

Or maybe Nickles read the landscaped and found that he wouldn't be able to pull 26 votes.

Anyway, I'll clarify by saying that with Frist, Santorum, or even Kay Bailey, we can't lose(each has their advantages). Remember, their are other GOP Senate leaders besides the ML, its a team. With Lott doing the right thing and staying in the Senate, I think conservatives are in a good position now(considering the 51-49 split, existing political split in the general public, and the current great need to better educate the populace about what conservatism is actually about, as opposed to the media portrayals and stereotypes.)

D'Amato considers himself to be a "Moderate." So, it was probably meant to be a compliment, coming from him.

I say, (lifting my glass) God save Thee, Senator Lott.

He's decided that he'd rather be Chairman of the budget committee.

This is a GREAT move for the party. I'm sure Mississippi is a fine state, but it's past is just bad symbolism for the big tent strategy of trying to expand voters. Even those who thought Lott should have remained have to admit that he wasn't the strongest leader available.

And I consider D'Amato an idiot.

ACU rating for Bill Frist. He scored a perfect 100 in the 107th Congress.
