And let's add these:

Securing the borders: bring our troops home from places like Bosnia (where they don't belong) and South Korea (where they're not wanted), and stem the invasion of illegal immigrants that's destroying the fabric of our nation

Put an end to "political correctness" in all its poisonous incarnations: end affirmative action, stop using the military for social experimentation, end "multiculturism" in education and make English the national language

"Go to China" on one of the most pernicious abuses of federal power: end the so-called "War on Drugs" that has corrupted LEOs and turned our nation into the world's biggest jailer, all for the sake of the utopian fantasy of a "drug-free America"

The contract was published before the election. It contained the same language that it contains today. The Republicans said, specifically, in the contract, and verbally, and for everyone to hear, that they would bring these bills to the floor for a vote. If you thought that they were promising to liquidate enough Democrats in the Senate to make the balanced budget amendment pass (with a 2/3 majority), then you were, are, and probably always will be, sadly mistaken.

"...people usually get their feelings hurt, I wish it weren't so"

You have your wish. My feelings are not hurt. Reply as you like.

"...and hope that we can learn from each other"

That is a two-way proposition. So, I have posted facts that hopefully you have learned a little bit from. As for me, everything is a learning experience, and I have learned something about you (much good).

"...and not just make each other angry."

I am not angry. Just passionate.

"God's Grace, Peace, and Blessings to you and yours."

Ditto.

"Ok, I admit it, I paraphrased the comment"

Forgiven. But, you have to realize that this is an official tactic of The Left and is despised by those opposed to them.

"...but it sure is accurate in it's assessment, isn't it?"

NO

Those were promises, promises to enact a Balanced Budget Amendment, amoung other things. Remember?

They promised no such thing. The CWA promised to free several pieces of bottled legislation for a vote that had illegitimately been denied them...not that they would have enough support to pass. ...Though in fact most of it did pass, in some cases despite filibusters, and with unanimous or near-unanimous support.

In support of your accurate statement, here are the exact words from CWA:

Thereafter, within the first 100 days of the 104th Congress, we shall bring to the House Floor the following bills, each to be given full and open debate, each to be given a clear and fair vote and each to be immediately available this day for public inspection and scrutiny.

1. THE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT: A balanced budget/tax limitation amendment and a legislative line-item veto to restore fiscal responsibility to an out- of-control Congress, requiring them to live under the same budget constraints as families and businesses.

Vulcan Bullshrimp signed up 2002-12-20.

Y'all know what a 'disrupter' is, don't ya.

You might want to think about your arguments with this fool before wasting the forum's bandwidth.

Thanks Harpu. I always check on new names and was aware of that.

However, I don't necessarily agree on the response/bandwidth issue. My opinion is the best way to chase away the disrupters is to grind them off the forum with facts. It always catches up with them, and usually sooner than later, they "go to the beach" or drop off or whatever excuse not to continue the debate.

Of course there are varying degrees of disrupters. In this case, I felt that VBS has some level of sincerity in his beliefs, albeit they are naive and emotional. You are right that some disrupters deserve the 'Prizzi's Honor' treatment...

The Prizzi's get nothing!

"You might want to think about your arguments with this fool before wasting the forum's bandwidth."

One more thought. There are many lurkers on FR who are here to learn about truths that are not discussed in the national media outlets. We have a responsibility to help educate them and bring them out of darkness. Leaving unsubstantiated statements without rebuke will not help win more people away from "The Middle".

As for The Left, there is no hope. Do not cast pearls before swine.

Freakin' WHA!!

There were NO "Promises to enact" anything!

There was a promise to bring all 10 items up for a vote. Which the Speaker DID! I guess you have a problem with him keeping his word?

Of course, it was the over-reaching on behalf of harpies like you that gave us DemocRAT gains in the off-year election of 1998.

You are absolutely correct, the minute that the Republicans took over, they stated, "Hey, we only promised to hold votes on these issues, we didn't promise to work to pass them." The ink wasn't even dry on the Contract. I call that betrayal, I don't know what you might call it.

Sorry, I have to disagree with you. You do realize that if they didn't put that caveat into the contract (and I read the contract when it came out) that the Democrats would have had a field day. Saying you promised and see you couldn't deliver.

Everything in the contract was delivered. Can you imagine the Democrats doing the same thing? No way. Term Limits was blocked in the courts, but it did work with a lot of state legislatures and it did put a lot of congressmen on notice. Balancing the Budget was stopped by the Democrats (as you know they really don't like this idea). Cutting taxes met the same fate back then.

It just took a while longer than some of us expected. Don't go trying to give the Democrats any ammunition, we need every bullet for the Al Quida in Iraq.

I recall one particular measure where the Dems filibustered in the Senate for three days, then voted unanimously for it. When the Republican leadership chided them for it afterwards, the Democrat leadership noted that Republicans filibuster too. Dole responded: "Yes, but we never filibustered anything we supported."

Note that Vulcan BS has not returned from the beach yet... nor will he...once again, the truth scares away another disrupter...until he re-surfaces (again) under a new name. This guy has been around for a while under many names before 12/20/2002.

I love the fact that these dodos think they are fooling us! Ha!
