In fact, Lincoln was scrupulously honest.

So what explains why Lincoln himself wrote the the EP was unconsitutional, yet he still issued it? The same Lincoln that opined that the Executive could not coerce votes of the legislature, yet himself suppresed dissidents to prevent their voting against him? The same Lincoln that wrote that the decision of the court in the Dred Scott case was to be obeyed (before issuance), yet he afterwards wrote that the 7-2 decision was to be ignored? The same Lincoln that ordered the arrests of thousands despite the 1st Amendment protection? The same Lincoln that had hundreds of newspapers closed despite the "freedom of the press"? Are those the marks of an honest man?

I'm glad to see how you'd have a fit over conditions during a short period of civil insurrection, when a group of people started a war in great part over the "freedom" to enslave other human beings.

Lets talk about things which are more recent, shall we? How about the century of apartheid, which only ended in our lifetime?

How do you view the ideology and practices of people who are still alive and able to be scolded for racist actions?

Excuse me, but the founders fought a war in 1776 that was exactly the same - slavery was here long before the Confederacy seceded. But despite the rhetoric and vitriol posted by the Lincolnites, the objection is not that slavery ended, only that HOW it ended was the problem. The North had slaves, sailed to Africa to bring them here - with thousands dying in "Middle Passage", then sold those surviving and made millions. First they got their money - then they got morals.

140 years after the war, Lincolnites would have us believe that the North was without sin, and that Lincoln was a member of the Holy Trinity - incapable of error or sin.

Lets talk about things which are more recent, shall we? How about the century of apartheid, which only ended in our lifetime?

Neither the North nor South is without blemish, and it is usless to pretend otherwise.

How do you view the ideology and practices of people who are still alive and able to be scolded for racist actions?

I do not share their beliefs, and racism/racial superiority is wrong no matter who practices it. FWIW, I believe that we are ALL made in God's image, that we all descended from the same parents - Adam and Eve. God's grace saved me, and will save all who ask - no matter what color their skin.

Thanks. It's amazing to see how few people on FR will come out unabashedly in support of United States.

It's not amazing to me to see that you're about the only liberal tory on FR. States' rights have been lost to Federal wrongs. But you don't care.

Let them put it up and then dynamite the damn thing. Ideally, we would tie Non Sequitur and WhiskeyPapa to it first. That might mot solve our countries problems, but it would be a good start.

But please let me know when its going down. I would most particularly want to be there if I could witness N-S and WP being blown into even smaller pieces than they already comprise.

It's my understanding that the statue was dedicated last weekend. I think I saw a cable news story on it, showing the statue in place.
