I am merely pointing out that, if NAFTA is creating higher-paying jobs in Mexico (a necessary consequence if one believes that high-paying U.S. jobs are being lost to Mexico), then one cannot argue that NAFTA is increasing illegal immigration to the U.S. because it is putting Mexicans out of work.

Yes ---they just raised their minimum wage to just over $4.00 a DAY ---but the price of their imported tortillas is higher than they are here. Meat in Mexico is now about $5.00 a pound ---more than here. Even in Juarez where wages are better $25 to $30 a week is what someone can expect to make. If you believe there is really free trade, try taking a truckload of used clothes over there to sell or give away ---see what happens to you.

I am merely pointing out that, if NAFTA is creating higher-paying jobs in Mexico... Who said higher paying jobs were being created in Mexico? They're not, that's the problem and why you can't do trade deals with third world countries. It becomes lopsided in favor big-business who will simply move to the country that will provide cheaper labor.
American businesses aren't moving to Canada are they, and they're part of NAFTA too. Why would they, the wages up there are comparable to ours, it wouldn't be worth the move.
