Man admits killing girlfriend after acquittal (my title)

(Louisville-AP) -- The man who admitted killing his girlfriend after being acquitted of murder wants to get out of jail while he appeals a perjury conviction.

Mel Ignatow's lawyer, Michael Lemke, has asked Jefferson Circuit Judge Stephen Ryan to set bail.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Christie Floyd says prosecutors oppose the request.

Ryan says he'll consider the request, but did not give a time frame for a decision. Ignatow began serving a nine-year sentence in January for perjury. Ryan denied a request by Ignatow for shock probation in April. A Northern Kentucky jury acquitted Ignatow of the murder of Brenda Sue Schaefer in 1991.

Later, Ignatow admitted that he'd sexually abused and killed her.

The scumbag couldn't be retried for the crime. And here's he putting on the "chutzpah" defense. I noticed the conviction for perjury. He must be a registered Democrat to be kicking up such a fuss.

I remember this case from a TV magazine show story. Ignatow is an arrogant cretin. I didn't know that they at least nailed him on a perjury charge and he's doing time for it. I hope they find a way to keep him locked up for good.

There's probably nothing more to the story. It's like OJ -- tomorrow he could finally announce that he actually did kill Ron and Nicole, and he wouldn't be tried or anything. The trial's over.

Wasn't this the case where the carpet installer found a tape recording of the sex abuse and murder by this creep and another woman years after he had been acquitted?

"Shock probation provided defendants with an opportunity to receive probation after... a short period of time in a correctional facility. The theory underlying shock probation was that immersing a defendant in the penal system for a short period of time could 'shock' him or her into a noncriminal lifestyle...

"When Lem Moon was acquitted for the murder of his wife and Judge Pusey asked him if he had anything to say, he replied, "I never would have shot her if I'd know'd I'd have to go through so much red tape."

Couldn't he be tried for another, related crime? Like rape, 2nd degree murder, manslaughter or aggravated assault?

From the November 18, 2000, Miami Herald

At least 39 felons cast illegal votes

At least 39 felons -- mostly Democrats -- illegally cast absentee ballots in Broward and Miami-Dade counties in the Nov. 7 elections, according to a Herald analysis of absentee votes in those counties....

Yes, the one and the same. This case was covered by CourtTv. He's a f'ing scumbag, no doubt about it.

If I were related to the victim, I'd had to have taken care of the SOB myself.

I read a book about this one a few years ago. I think someone found a packet of photographs of the murder being commited. Ignatow had hidden them in a house he later sold.
It was a particularly gruesome killing. I didn't know he was serving time for perjury. I do hope he's the piece de resistance of the communal prison showers.

In King County Superior Court the judges not only aid and abet perjury in Family Court, they also openly commit fraud upon the court by fabricating evidence and deliberately misquoting laws. Either perjury is illegal or all, or it doesn't count.

Maybe he can go golfing with O.J. Simpson. They can trade notes and slap each other on the back.
