Self Defense Shooting changes her life

Two and a half months after she shot the man accused of sexually assaulting six women in the Highland Park area, Charmaine Dunbar is looking for a new hill.

Dunbar, a University of Pittsburgh security guard, was taking her typical early morning walk Oct. 8 when she twice encountered Daniel Wesley. The first time, around 3:45 a.m., he pointed a rifle at her. She ran away and called the police.

Dunbar's girlfriends know the details, and she tells them that if they want to protect themselves, they should buy guns and learn to shoot them. And, she stresses, they should get licenses, too.

Yes, just go to the nearest police station, pay 5 or 10 bucks and away you go with a license. Shouldn't take more than 10 to 15 minutes. So simple.(/sarcasm)Berkely PD(Calif) would be very understanding I'm sure.

Three cheers for PA's sensible CCW laws. I would wager that the brave lad she popped now has a "gut feeling" about the outcomes of sexual assaults, if any, that he might have the opportunity to carry out in the future.

If the little turd is convicted and during his "sabbatical" in The Big House remains in the wheel chair he so richly deserves -- perhaps Charmaine Dunbar can find it in her heart to send him a new battery evry year as a Christmas present -- his new nickname might well be "Roll-AIDS"......

In Pennsylvania, it just about is that simple, at least in most counties (though not in Philadelphia). As I recall it was $19 for five years. Only hassle is that you have to stop by your local police station to get them to sign a card saying they don't know you to be a criminal. Then you take the card to the county courthouse, fill out a form, hand the two pieces of paper to a nice sheriff's deputy in a basement office, who snaps your photo (or you can bring your own), resumably he runs a NICS check on you, and about 3 minutes later he hands you your laminated license. Not that I think anyone should be required to have a license to carry. But compared to what I hear of some other states, the Pennsylvania routine is a breeze.

I don't understand that.

I don't either, but hear it's common for cops also. Probably one of those life experiences you have to go through.

Every tactical class I've taken stresses the physical and emotional toll a shooting takes on a person.

Bless this woman for having the guts to do the right thing and not 'shoot to wound'. She does need to work on her center of mass shots though.
