Raelians, Cloning, and Star Trek (Hold Muh Phaser Alert!)
The StarTrek Encyclopedia ^ | 1/1/03 | day10

My wife and I were listening to whoever was filling in for Rush Limbaugh a couple of days ago and having a few laughs as he discussed the "Raelians" and the cloning controversy. My wife commented that the founder of the cult had probably watched too much Star Trek while "chemically enhanced" - she makes these cracks knowing I am a hopeless Trekkie.

Then it hits me that I knew the name "Rael" from somewhere before. Yep - Star Trek! Below is the entry for "Rael" from the Star Trek Encyclopedia, Expanded Edition, published 1999 (I swear, it was for my kids!):

Rael: - Scalosian male who boarded the Enterprise in 2268 in an attempt to cryogenically freeze the crew and use the males for breeding stock. Like all males on planet Scalos, Rael was sterile due to radiation contamination on his planet. Although he intellectually realized the need to propagate his species by forcing alien males to mate with Scalosian females, he became jealous of the pairing of Captain James Kirk and Deela.

And here is a shot of the "Rael" himself in what looks suspiciously like Spock's Vulcan robe from the movies Star Trek 3 and 4. Has he been hanging out on EBay or did he holdup a Star Trek convention? LMAO

Ah yes, Rael. Purveyor of the original "fitness water".
