Why Win If You're Going to Wimp Out? (Rush Limbaugh asks Republicans)

Why Win If You're Going to Wimp Out?

January 2, 2003

There is no reason for going soft on the Bush agenda, yet we're doing that more and more on everything from ending racial discrimination (aka: affirmative action) to tax fairness to Saddam. If we'd already dealt with him, we wouldn't be faced with this supposed dilemma over whether North Korea or Iraq should be our primary focus. It's not a dilemma, anyway. They're both going to be dealt with, so there's no reason to create these openings.

Reuters reports that President Bush plans to unveil an economic stimulus package expected to reach up to $300 billion, including "targeted" tax cuts, but only a 50% cut in taxes on corporate dividends to shareholders. The original proposal was to eliminate them, because it's immoral to tax earnings twice. It's double taxation. It's ridiculous. For crying out loud, why do you win the White House and Senate if you're only going to water down your agenda?

I love this administration when it comes to foreign policy and protecting us from terrorism, but I continue to scratch my head over some of this on the domestic side. If this Reuters story isn't just wishful thinking, the White House is going to shelve tax cuts because they fear the Democratic lie that it's "for the rich." They don't have the sand to go out there and cite the IRS figures we have on this site, proving that only the rich are paying income taxes.

Who are "the rich," anyway? It used to be millionaires. Today it's any family that earns $100,000 a year - and we have multimillionaires like Kerry and Edwards and Rockefeller and Kennedy saying, "I have my wealth, so I don't favor a wealth tax, but I'm going to tax income so you can't get wealthy."

The White House is also said to be staying out of the Supreme Court case of a woman kept out of the University of Michigan because of her skin color: white. Admission based on race is wrong, but the administration fears taking the woman's side because it would damage White House counsel Alberto Gonzales' Supreme Court confirmation.

They're also ready to extend unemployment insurance yet again – which means paying people not to work by taking the money from those of us who are working. Folks, the Democrats are going to criticize us no matter what we do. It's absurd to back down on our agenda. As Senator Mitch McConnell told me in our upcoming Limbaugh Letter interview, the Senate only has six months to get things done. The Democrats want to bottle things up so they can have issues. Why help them out?

I like Rush and listen to him all the time.....but the fact is Bush far more politically tactful than Rush will ever be.
Rush could never become President. But I do appreciate most of his criticism and commentary on the Bush agenda.

McDonalds is laying off because its a poorly run corporation, that serves crappy food with crappy service to public that no longer wants to pay for their trash...

McDonalds is not a barometer of employement opportunity...

The number of people looking for food has increased every year in America...If McDonalds can't fill their need...good riddance...Thats capitilism in action bub...

I got another tip for ya...Nobody deserves a job...nobody deserves to keep their job...the only thing anyone can hope for is the opportunity to work...and they better damn show up ready to make their boss a profit...or both they and their boss are history...its rough and unfriendly...just the way I like it...

All Attempts at Homogeneity in society fail...put on your flak jacket and deal with it...

The cost of not confronting the Germans when they marched into the Rhineland was 50 million lives. The cost of the war with Iraq will be well worth the gain to come from defeating the Saddam Huisein regime.

It's absurd to back down on our agenda.

Tax cuts will save this laggard economy. Bush and the Pubbies earned an historic election, which you predicted, now they better act like they're in charge.

I may be wrong, but at least on the domestic front, this is government by timidity. Come to think of it, that's pretty much the story of the Republicans. Newt was the glaring exception that proves the rule.

You got that right! He should learn the lesson his father learned. The Democrats pressured him into raising taxes and then turned around and used it against him during the campaign.

The Lott situation was, and may or may not still be, on the brink of causing a deep fissure in conservative circles. A whole lot of people on our side saw self-serving grandstanding by certain elements of the conservative movement.

Rush Limbaugh

Make that five, M. There are at least five people on this forum who are concerned about the Lott situation.

I'll be on Rush's side, any day.

I remember it well in fact I was busy during those finale weeks telling a certain group of 3rd party voters not to throw away their votes and how we were going to win big on election day! LOL

That is part of why this is so personal to me. If Bush throws it all to the rats I did all that work for nothing.

I hate wasting my time and working for nothing. I hate that with a passion! Its all or nothing and being the winner is the end goal! With truth and results!

I'm all for tax cuts in EVERY area. For the life of me though, I think this administration and its advisors took a STUPID PILL since they've not jumped all over taxing social security and haven't vowed to repeal this grossly unfair tax!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about a missed opportunity... I'm just flat out dumb-founded they've totally missed this boat and if nothing else, realized the political windfall such a move would get the Bush administration Tsk, tsk...

Seems to me that the last time Rush was heavily into criticizing GW (prior to the Nov election), he ended up making a public apology after the election. Basically saying he was wrong and what GW was doing and planning had eluded him.

It's been said over and over, but you really shouldn't "misunderestimate" GW until the whole picture plays out.

Maybe his circle of influence is urging him to Govern like a centrist? Don't do anything to radical George, we wouldn't want to lose the Reagan Democrats and soccer moms in 2004.

I'm self-employed. As both my employer and my employee I pay both halves of my social security tax. This is actually a premium payment into the governments mandatory retirement program. You do not cut the premium payment on someone simply because they pay no other "tax" that can be cut. I don't get it? the people that pay no federal tax are wanting a tax cut? Who's taking the dummy pills? Isn't true the Social Security system is in peril? Cutting the premiums can only imperil it further. Of course the Dems want SS to fail so the Gov. can then step in and save the people. The ol' create a crisis then be the savior ploy.

I'm not so sure. Conservatives will once again have the choice of two evils. And they'll cave to keep a democrat out of office.

I would like to see someone step up in the RP and challenge Bush, but that is a pipedream.
