Finally, Republicans must work more closely with (CONSERVATIVE) activists. In an ideal world, appointing judges would not require massive grassroots campaigns, but it does today because judges have become too powerful and leftists want to capture the courts to short-circuit democracy.

Will Frist actually require Schumer to speak for hours against the Pickering nomination, or can Schumer just say he is "filibustering," and therefore Frist will pull the nomination or what? I would say let Schumer speak until he is hoarse but proceed with the nomination. Keep them in session round-the-clock to break his filibuster.

Could there ever be a classic movie about an honest politician entitled, Mr. Smith Serves His Fourth Term? I rest my case. ROFLOL! Thanks for the info, Congressman!

Yes, thank you. The word I wanted was "niggling," not "nibbling." 'Course, here in DC a government employee got fired for using the word "niggardly" because someone didn't know what that word really meant. So maybe in my parts "niggling" isn't safe either. Well, one thing's for sure. The English language isn't safe around me!

I wonder if the Dems have considered the highly possible negative consequences of such action...

"Well dammit, they have to say so loudly and publicly that they support Pickering. As major black groups."They tried to the last time Pickering was up for nomination. I appeared to me that they were overshadowed by the dems and their minions that actually ran the hearings (NOW and other liberal alphabet groups). Since then, the dems political fortunes have changed. I think we will be seeing more of Charles Evers, etc. this time.

Squeeze me, but 60 is not old, particularly for a judge.
Take a look at the Supreme Court, we can't get those codgers out of there with dynamite.
In fact, may I say, 60 is not old for anything ... think of it as 59 ... that's baby boomer age.

I would say let Schumer speak until he is hoarse but proceed with the nomination. Keep them in session round-the-clock to break his filibuster. That's what they have done before. Threaten a filibuster and we cower in the corner. We should meet it head on, and as someone else posted, bring out the cots! Make him stand there until he drops. The more he talks the more people can see that this guy is a slimey reptile. We should turn over the rocks they hide under for all to see.

You must have gotten your DNC talking points memo this morning.
Pickering is not a racist. To cave on him because of the Lott fiasco would not be what Bush is about.

PLEASE, Don't denigrate the snakes, they (the snakes)
can't help it....whereas Shillery and/or chuckie can.
To: Howlin
Having to actually talk to maintain a filibuster 24 hours a day is passe. It isn't done that way anymore. I would be surprised if Pickering can get 60 votes. We shall see.

Bush made a big mistake in nominating Pickering.Other than emboldening the left, what mistake was there in nominating Pickering?

(Certainly the left shouldn't get to pick who GW nominates...)

Bush made a big mistake in nominating Pickering. It's as if he wants to reinforce the Democrat message on Lott. Bush doesn't make too many POLITICAL mistakes but this is one. I disagree. IMO Bush is
(A) following up on the apparent abandonment of Mississippi's Lott with support of another of their own
(B) refuting any "racism" tendencies
(C) forcing the Dem's hand exposing them to Racism charges
(D) challenging them and setting HIS agenda not their's.

The decision to have the RNC in NYC makes me think even more strongly that Cheney will step down as VP, and local hero Rudy will join the ticket and go on to become Vice President in 2004, and President in 2008 (beating Hillary Rodham).

I wish it were otherwise but NY is bulging with unionists, an oversupply of state and federal workers getting their paychecks from government, and lots of Demos who vote Demo just because their grandaddies were. Both Hiliary and Chucky cheese represent the values of most people in NYS - on the social issues, and the economic ones. The conservatives are in the minority and they are mostly economic not social conservatives. A miracle is what we need here in NYS - not likely.
