Part of the problem is that many people haven't been taught the correct etiquette, they are just ignorant. It is no surprise to repeat that schools haven't taught students to honor the flag for many years, and those ignorant students now have kids. They are clueless, but hopefully not ALL unpatriotic. Until recently, the schools didn't even have the Pledge Of Allegiance. Perhaps they will get a clue from the actions of the fine gentleman in the wheelchair.

I'm willing to learn...at our 4th of July parade, I stand the first time the flag comes buy. After that 200+ more come buy. Do I sand for each one?

Thanks for the post, it was very heart felt, sadly enough it is the norm nowaday's. I'm not a Vet but I would be one to stand next to the patriotic gentleman if I were there.

My daughters waged a massive war to get flags back into each classroom. The school was adamant they didn't want them there. (Issaquah H.S., Issaquah, WA). The Pledge of Allegiance disappeared twenty five years ago.

I agree with your assessment, but I also noted that during the Rose Parade, the military units got the most standing ovations, over any other floats or groups.
