Colonel Muammar Gaddafi
is coming in from the cold
Libya is exchanging intelligence about the al-Qaeda network with the United States, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has said.
Colonel Gaddafi said there were what he called Libyan terrorists in the US and Britain, and they should be "wiped out".
Osama Bin Laden is regarded as a prophet by many Muslims and has convinced his followers that the US is attacking the whole Islamic world, the Libyan leader tells Newsweek magazine in an interview.
Colonel Gaddafi - who himself has been accused of sponsoring international terrorism - said there had been assassination attempts on his life by al-Qaeda members.
Fight to the finish
"[Fundamentalism] is a threat to all regimes in the region," he said.
"But unfortunately, America has given the fundamentalists a strong pretext to carry on their work."
"[Bin Laden] told them in the beginning that America's objective was not only Afghanistan. Now that there is a move against Iraq, it has proven bin Laden right," he added.
Colonel Gaddafi also reiterated his opposition to a possible US-led war against Iraq.
He said that while he had never agreed with Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi leader did not constitute a threat.
"We don't know who poses a greater threat - the American president or Saddam Hussein," he said.
"[Saddam Hussein] opened his country for full inspections. What more can he do? Now it is a fight to the finish."

ya think? He sure frightens me because he sits on the UN Human Rights panel and has a disturbing power complex, saying Bush could be more dangerous than Saddam. Is it feasible that this screwball could send Bush or Powell before the ICC? Mexico wants the UN to charge the US with Human Rights violations because illegal aliens trek across the 120 degree desert in the summer and die. Go figure.

"Colonel Gaddafi said there were what he called Libyan terrorists in the US and Britain, and they should be 'wiped out'."Yep...and there's a terrorist named Qaddafi in Libya who should be wiped out...talk about the pot calling the kettle black! He just wants the US to get rid of his competition for him.

Now that there is a move against Iraq, it has proven bin Laden right . . . The move against Iraq "proves" nothing of the kind! You'd think "moderate" muslims (ha!) would ridicule this kind of fallacious thinking.

"Mexico wants the UN to charge the US with Human Rights violations because illegal aliens trek across the 120 degree desert in the summer and die. Go figure."The US should have Mexico charged with human rights violations for creating the economic and social conditions which force illegal aliens to trek across the desert in 120 degree heat and die...
Qaddafi is indeed nuts. I've said for years that if he must have a serious drug problem. Ever watch him TALK?? His eyes lose what little focus they have and drift upward, and he finishes every statement by jabbering at the ceiling...and how old is that photo of him?? That's what he looked like back in the '80's

Colonel Gaddafi said there were what he called Libyan terrorists in the US and Britain, and they should be "wiped out". In America we call this "plausible deniability".
Looks like old Muammar is finally beginning to learn the ropes.

Osama Bin Laden is regarded as a prophet by many Muslims Did Khadaffi say that? It must be a mistranslation. Muslims say Mohammed was the last prophet.
To: madfly
He is taking a position which he believes will spare him from US led "regime changes" and it might work. For awhile.
For every nation involved, most particularly the muslim and arab ones, it is a risky, complex situation.
As powerful as the US is, it still has to rely on help when available. To the extent Libya actually help against the terrorists of interest, he may hang on for quite a long while.
The enemy of my enemy is my (useful temporary) friend. My 2 cents.

Ya know... Reagan really scared the crap out of himYep. I believe Gaddafi was the first foreign leader to send condolences to the US following the 9/11 terror attacks. These days, Colonel Gaddafi is more like Sergeant Shultz - - "I ...know ...nuh-THINK!!"
