Add Streisand, Paltrow, Diaz, Chase to List of Anti-SUV Hypocrites

Norman Lear, Arianna Huffington and Sen. John Kerry aren't the only anti-SUV hypocrites. Add Barbra Streisand, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz and Chevy Chase to the growing list.

Tinseltown's anti-choice left is certainly making an ass of itself this time. "Many of the Hollywood celebrities behind the new campaign against gas-guzzling SUVs are hypocrites who consume huge quantities of fossil fuels in their stretch limos, Gulfstream jets and oversized Beverly Hills mansions," the New York Post's cheeky Page Six column noted today.

Paltrow's latest role: appearing in ads for Lear's Enviromental Media Association accusing SUV owners of supporting terrorism. "But some of Paltrow's neighbors find her to be an odd choice for an anti-SUV poster girl," the Post noted.

"She drives a Mercedes-Benz SUV," revealed one of Paltrow's neighbors in Manhattan's West Village. "Not only does she drive an SUV, she selfishly parks it on the sidewalk in our neighborhood."

Paltrow's mouthpiece refused to respond.

Long-ago star Chase claims to be a big supporter of Lear's group, but that doesn't stop him from tooling around Westchester County in his big fat SUV.

"They keep it in the back, and it's very rarely used," Chase's flack, Alan Eichorn, told Page Six. "They only use it when they have to attach the horse trailer or when they're carrying a lot of kids."

Oh? What about all the ecological damage that "environmentalists" claim horses cause? And how many vehicles do Chase and his wife have?

At least three. Eichorn bragged that the "extremely enviromentally conscious" Chase and his wife have two of Toyota's Prius hybrid cars, in addition to their SUV and who knows what else.

"They hate having the SUV, and they're going to get rid of it as soon as the carmakers come out with a hybrid version," Eichorn said.

Get rid of it? How environmentally insensitive. Do Hollywood's left-wing thought police suggest cramming our precious landfills with vehicles that still work? Where exactly do these people think all that metal, plastic, rubber and glass came from? (Hint: Think Mother Earth.)

That brings to mind a recent interview with Cameron Diaz, in which she bragged of ignoring her garage full of cars in favor of her new Prius. When Diaz isn't doffing her duds in such awful movies as "The Sweetest Thing," she makes use of the photo opportunities at La-La Land's luxurious "environmental" fund-raisers. Exactly how many cars does one starlet need?

And then there's Babs.

"Barbra Streisand, meanwhile, never seems to tire of telling other people how to live, but the world would be a pretty smog-filled place if the rest of us lived like her," Page Six observed. "As The Post reported recently, Streisand and her hubby James Brolin have SUVs."

Babs' P.R. hack claims that Mrs. and Mr. Streisand also plan to buy a Prius. Just one new toy in the overflowing playpen of those infantile but materialistic Hollywood hypocrites.

Toyota must be thrilled that their Prius is apparently becoming the "must-have" accessory for illogical and hypocritical leftist SUV owners.

I can see a great new ad campaign:

"You don't even need to drive it! Just keep one in the garage to assuage your slight tinge of guilt."

Yes, we are living Orwell's ANIMAL FARM --- All animals are created equal, but some are more equal than others."

Those stars who want to help the environment could buy an electric Toyota RAV4 or a Volvo bi-fuel which runs on gasoline and liquified natural gas. They could buy an electric Ford Ranger. They could buy the new Honda Civic hybrid. If they bought a 2003 Accord with standard 4-cylinder and ran it with ChevronTexaco low-sulfur fuel, what would come out the tailpipe would be cleaner than the ambient air. With their money, they could modify any vehicle to run on clean-burning natural gas.

Ed Begley Jr. is the only one in Hollywood who has the moral authority to speak on the subject. He has an electric vehicle and rides a bicycle.

There certainly are a lot of celebs who are just now about to get rid of their SUVs. Are we to believe that they all suddenly had this overwhelming sense of responsibility because they think they are supporting terrorists by owning an SUV?

What really gets me about the hollywood types is that they whine about SUV's all day, then hop in there G - IV and fly wherever it is they go. A Gulfstream 4 burns more fuel flying from L.A. to N.Y and back than most suv's burn all year. These people are nuts, they just don't get it.

It was mentioned recently on FR that Bob Redford has an SUV but Redford says that was OK because he goes "exploring" in it.

It's also been pointed out that algore will drive up in a caravan of 24 SUV's and limos to give a speech on the evils of fossil fuels and the internal combustion engine.

Do as I say, not as I do, seems to be the consistent philosophy here.

CDs are made from oil.
Audio cassettes are made from oil.
Movie cameras have parts made from oil.
Video cameras have parts made from oil.
Stereo systems have parts made from oil.
TV sets have parts made from oil.
Radio and TV transmitters, and cable all have parts made of oil.
Movie film is made from trees (unless its fake celuloid then its oil)

When the Hollywood crowd gives up producing movies, music cds, tv shows and radio programs, then they can complain about oil usage.

They won't because it would be THEIR lifestyle thats at stake then, not the rest of us.

Remember, supporting the Hollywood-Left is supporting Terrorism!

Your right about Ed Begley but...

"There's also the issue of whether or not electric vehicles would actually reduce pollution. The electricity needed to recharge the battery has to come from another power source. Unless that power source is nuclear, hydroelectric, wind, solar or geothermal, there is little or no net reduction in pollution or CO2 because most electrical power in this country is generated by burning coal or natural gas. No new nuclear power plants have been built in the U.S. for over 25 years, and many nukes are now reaching retirement age and will have to be decommissioned. Unless there is a rebirth of nuclear energy or a large-scale shift to alternative sources of clean power (which are more expensive and require huge financial investments), electric vehicles aren't going far."

During a rebroadcast of a Clark Howard show (WSB-AM in Atlanta), Clark spent some time describing yet ANOTHER bit of insanity in the tax code.

For those not familiar with this document, it is so named as it is written in some sort of indecipherable “code” understood ONLY by a hunch-backed creature kept chained in the basement of the Capitol Building in Washington. The creature is brought forth during periodic tax legislation “mark-up” sessions to translate already virtually incomprehensible “lawyerese” into this totally incomprehensible “code.”

Howard – apparently having retained the services of the creature for purposes of translation – disclosed that one of the reasons we see so many more 10,000 # gas-guzzling SUVs (with which I have no problem) on the roads is – the tax code.

In what MAY be a classic case of unintended consequences (or an equally classic intended loophole for a specific class of citizen), it seems that business owners, professionals and some who buy one of a dozen or so of the specific vehicles listed in the code may write off the cost of same on his taxes. This, of course, permits those of us who drive those stupid little economical vehicles to subsidize their behemoths.

Originally INTENDED to give a tax break to (read that “social engineer”) farmers for certain large trucks needed in their businesses, this section of the “code” is apparently so badly and loosely written that it contains a loophole big enough to -- drive a subsidized SUV through. Seems that some of the creature’s more alert brethren, aka “tax attorneys”) found that their non-farmer clients could hitch a ride at the expense of us dummies out there who can’t or won’t consort with these alien life forms.

So we have the spectacle of the government encouraging folks to car-pool – knees on their chests -- in Yugos and use LESS petroleum based energy on one hand while encouraging the growing herd of street legal monster trucks on the other, from one of which, Ariana Huffnblow, Babs Streisand, Swineth Paltry, Chevy "Has Been" Chase, etc. may be screaming about subsidizing terrorists.

Clark wrapped the segment by saying that he’d gotten hundreds of emails on the subject. Not from folks outraged at this further tax code idiocy. From folks asking how THEY could get THEIR FREE SUV! His advice? Spend an hour of clock time with your tax guy to make sure you cover your butt before driving through this particular loophole.

Anyone else think it’s long past time to drive a stake through the heart of the creature and his minions?

If you do, get everyone you know to visit http://www.votr.org to sign the petition found there.

Some members of the political ruling class may not be very bright and may be ethically challenged but THEY DO KNOW HOW TO COUNT! And when they feel the heat, they SEE THE LIGHT! And the “heat” in this case is millions of signatures from outraged citizens.

I read an article not long ago that Babs keeps her house air conditioned to meat locker cold. But we peons are urged to turn up the thermostats and hang our laundry outside on a closeline. We should be checking on all of the environmental nitwits in our respective states to see what kind of cars they drive and what type of houses they live in. Then out them as enviromentally insensitive.

Lots of stars actually drive compact hybrid or electric cars. The point here is clearly that our people need to be aware of energy savings and wastes. The energy conservation movement needs spokesmen, and of course it is easy to use movie stars. Now remember Camren Diaz has a 58MPG hybrid electric car, and she praises the concept. On the other hand, most of the time, she is driven by gas guzzling limousines. Stars and politicians like to tell us do as I say, not as I do. They are rich, they are famous, they should be allowed to drive the biggest SUV, but the rest of us, we should really think about better energy utilization. Most of us can do real well with a six cylinder cars or SUV. The big campaign is simply to make it not fashionable to drive an SUV as big as a bus. Unfortunately, our government is not taking the lead in advising our people not waste energy. I think the hostility from the conservatives on this subject is very unwise. Every American should conserve and be conscientious not waste energy. We all know that if we did not pay so much money to Saudi Arabia for oil, they will have less money to export Islam, and hate.

I do agree that we should be able to drill in Alaska. The current environmental regulation will more than guard against any bad spills or contamination. I was in Venezuela a few years back, and observed oil pumps in the middle of the cities! Our environmental whackoes are simply exaggerating the fear, and our ignorant public is buying these lies. Nuclear power is also much safer than Julia Roberts and the rest of the Hollywood left may think.
Also, driving 12 cylinder car or 6 cylinder cars should be a matter of choice.
Having said so, the government and the media has a role in influencing energy conservation ideas and ethics. The concept of saving energy should not be an evil idea as some of the right wingers appear to think. As a right winger my self, I think our government and our media should encourage the population not waste energy.

One could reasonably ask if they hate it so much why did they get it in the first place? One could just as reasonably ask if they hate it so much why do they keep it? Is someone holding a gun to their heads forcing them to hang onto the thing? Why do they have to wait for a hybrid version? Why not just get rid of it now if that is so important? And don't even both to sell it, just give it away. I'm sure some of Chevy's buddies would be glad to take it off his hands for free, people like Fidel Castro, or Robert Mugabe, or maybe even Saddam.

I don't see why a case couldn't be made for conservation on the basis of economics alone. In most cases, its just good economic sense not to waste energy if reasonable alternatives to a particular end-use device are available (e.g. use of compact fluorescent bulbs in applications where they are practical and the old bulb has burned out). There is no need to demonize a whole consumer group (SUV owners). Most people resent attempts to shame them into doing something. Reasonable persuasion is generally a better approach.

That is the point exactly. (This point was impressed upon me when I was kid on a field trip. We were touring in the inside of a (C-4)transport plane and the national guardsman stated that the plane would burn more fuel than a car that you would drive for the next 50 years.)

But, all you Freepers, you don't understand the logic, you are not that sophisticated: it is all right for Lear, Redford, Chase and Paltrow to drive SUV's, because they are entitled to drive them. WHY? Because they are entertainment celebrities.

And I think that is exactly what they want to see: work on this till the masses are riding bicycles like the Chinese while (nothing spells blockbuster like) Chevy Chase pulls his horses behind the SUV he hates. They can feel good about the environment because all the little people are riding around in mini-me cars, powered by electricity with a range of 72 miles, yet enjoy the comfort and convenience of a Suburban or Navigator.

Here is another point. Personal use is obvious,(use of Gulfstream airplanes), but what about using airplances and other fuel burning vehicles in movies? Honestly folks, we don't have to make movies at all, much less movies involving diesel and gas engines. But for the likes of the above, it is OK to burn fossil fuel to film a movie because that is art.

You will not hear one actor call on all actors to sell their SUV, or refuse rides in limos. You will not hear Chase deride the exec that gives him his next movie job for riding a limo or owning an SUV. Or another home (no one needs two homes). No actor will call on all actors not to act in movies that burn fossil fuel.

More importantly, film (I believe) is a plastic product made from petroleum. I may be wrong, maybe it is synthetic, but if it is not, how do they justify filming?

And that's not the half of it.

I recently read a book about an ex Communist family. When writing about the gulags the author told a story of Americans who emigrated to the USSR in the beginning, thinking it was a wonderful new frontier. Well, I guess some famous jazz musician did this (wish I could recall his name) I guess at first he got some preferential treatment seeing as he was an American leaving capaitalist pig America for the worker's paradise. Seems after some time, he ended up in one of the most severe gulags and perished shortly thereafter. Same self important idiot entertainers, just a different time.

e·lite n.

General Motors Corp. and the U.S. Army revealed a diesel hybrid military pickup truck equipped with a fuel cell auxiliary power unit (APU) that could become the model for the Army's new fleet of 30,000 light tactical vehicles by the end of the decade.

The diesel hybrid improves Army fuel consumption by 20 percent over conventional diesels, reduces emissions and provides troops with clean, reliable electrical power. These are crucial elements in helping to transform the Army into a lighter, more mobile military unit. And with fuel transportation costs reaching up to $400 a gallon depending on training or battlefield operations, the taxpayer savings could run well into the millions of dollars.
