When was the last time a coach was fired after reaching the divisional playoff 'final four' in the NFC?

winning 60% of the time and winning the first playoff game isn't good enough... they want a new coach who will fail to make the playoffs altogether! ;^)

Hey Niners fans! Here's what you have to look forward to when you guys hire Dennis Green: You will make it to the playoffs most every year he is head coach, however you will choke your arses off every time! LOL

I agree. They actually made the Dallas Cowboys offense look like a viable NFL offense.

The Whiners have a history of dismissing people as if they were cheap motel bed sheets.

The Niners annoy me with that smug aura of royalty they portray every season, as if the rest of the NFL are mere subjects or something getting in the way of their yearly SuperBowl conquest.

No problem, Mariucci won't have any problem finding a new job.

Walsh is the so called genius behind the curtain making the key decisions of who to sign and draft.

Rump was one of his choices, and the 49ers stuck with this loser for the season. Rump cost them a large part of their losses with his inept coverage and terrible miss tackles. My 23 month old grandson, Bubba Bam Bam would have been a better draft choice.

Since Rump was Walsh's guy, he stayed and cost the 49 ers a lot of games.

The end of the first half of last Sunday's game showed us, as an SF Examiner sports writer observed, that Mariucci is more interested in not losing than in winning. All running, no passing, goodbye!

I couldn't believe they let the clock run down with 30 seconds left in the half, two timeouts and the ball on the 40 yard line.

Dittoes.

When I saw that, I said to my wife, "He wants to be fired!"

PS, I am a still mourning Giant fan:(

Bill Walsh's "genius" has always been overrated. I know he won three titles, but he also lost a few playoff games to teams that were unquestionably inferior. A Joe Gibbs or Bill Parcells would have definitely done a better job with that sort of unbelievable collection of talent.

I hope the Bears get him. We need a coach who actually knows how to win. I know they sucked against TB but hell they had a great year and I think it is bull to blame their loss entirely on him.

The niners didn't have much of a choice with all the banged up DB's this year, they even had to play some Cowboy cast-off against the Buc's after signing him a few days earlier.

Here's a possibility for you...

Green gets hired and when Minnesota slices off Randy "I'll play when I feel like it" Moss' salary this summer, he brings him to Gay Bay to team with Terrell Owens' inflated head.

Carmen Policy, Eddie DeBartolo, Steve Mariucci.

I'd hate to be the guy who delivered that pink slip.

Better go out back and check your horses.

You posted: When was the last time a coach was fired after reaching the divisional playoff 'final four' in the NFC?

George Seiffert (sp?), was fired to make room for the winner Mooch. George had a better winning record than Walsh did, and he got axed to be replaced with a guy who was not ready for prime time coaching.

As long as Walsh is behind the curtain with his long knives, there will not be a successful coach for the 49ers.

Thanks. I thought Walsh was still running the show, I think Walsh needs to turn over player personnel matters to someone else now. At least the 49ers don't have the Steelers secondary. I just wonder if the 49ers will bring a Walsh disciple such as Holmgren or Green, would be a mistake in my opinion.

You mistake what I meant by Walsh's genius; it wasn't in play calling. It was in identifying talent and developing it by teaching his players the fine points of their positions, both physically and intellectually. You should listen to Montana or Rice talk about that.

In that respect, you just gave him the same complement.
