How many Fourty-niner fans does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Five-hundred and one. One to screw in the bulb, and five-hundred to talk about how good the old bulb was.

I cannot believe the Niners are even considering choke-king Dennis Green!

He's black. Perhaps Boxer and Feinstein will pressure to NFL to adopt affirmative action in coaching.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Steve Mariucci listens to a question during a press conference following their loss to against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In a shocking move, the 49ers today fired Steve Mariucci as their coach. Team spokesman Kirk Reynolds said Mariucci was informed of his dismissal this morning by team director John York.

There was no immediate word regarding a replacement for Mariucci.

The firing comes after Mariucci had guided the team to the playoffs for the fourth time in his six seasons as coach. The 49ers reached the second round of the postseason after staging the NFL's second-greatest comeback in a 39-38 victory over the New York Giants on Jan. 5. But their season ended this past Sunday in Tampa with 31-6 blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The fate of Mariucci's 17 assistants is unclear. Eight had contracts expiring soon after the Super Bowl. General Manager Terry Donahue was scheduled to elaborate on the firing at a noon news conference today.

The owner is an idiot. They made it to the playoffs and won in the first round. You can't really expect anything more out of a coach.

After 5 (count them 5) Superbowls, anything less is failure around here. It's still better than being in Cincinati!

Walsh is the so called genius behind the curtain making the key decisions of who to sign and draft.

I'll DITTO that....

I heard the Niners were looking for someone that could go all the way and wouldn't choke...

"the New York football Giants"

This phrase has been an anacronism since about 1957 when the New York Giants baseball team moved to San Francisco, so why do people still say it?

Im sitting here watching Channel 5 sports talking heads speculating.. I bet Donahue takes over coaching .. He can't stay off the side line .. Im not too crazy about Greene, and having TO aka Moss Jr. to have to contend with.

Hey, one can dream.
