This bill would be a proper use of the Supremacy Clause in Article VI of the Constitution, as well as the Fourteenth Amendment.

The bogus term "States Rights" does not apply here. The Tenth Amendment says:

The powers [not rights] not granted to the United States by the Constitution, nor forbidden by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The Second Amendment says the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Citizens have rights; not governments, groups, or "society".

Hopefully we will not need to sue for our rights using Rule 308.

Such an action would require high-caliber counsel.

No disagreements there about his foreign policy. My dream ticket, Tancredo for President and Paul for Vice President.

In my case, it won't do much good. BOTH my senators, unfortunately, have "D"s next to their names.

Thanks for the ping !

You're welcome!

I never said it would be easy to move this bill ahead!

In fact, I know it will be damn hard.
But if a fully republican congress means anything it SHOULD be reasonably possible.

The soccer moms did not elect this republican congress, or pres. Bush, we did!

We will have to remind them of that fact.

If I do not see significant progress on restoring our RKBA in this session I guarantee I will not be busting my hump again to elect republicans in the next election.

Neither will a LOT of other people.

Gun owners are one of the largest and most involved "special interest groups" in America, estimated at about seventy million, and congress has felt the sting of crossing us before. Remember Klintons whining about what we did to his congress in 94?

We still have that power, despite traitor McPains incumbent protection act ("Campaign Finance Reform Act").

It will require us to become truly involved, to a level we have not been since the protest and rallies of '94. We must sieze the current opportunity to not only pass THIS bill, but several others that would restore our RKBA.

It can be done!

I don't think so.
If Gore would have won that would be correct. The anti-gun train is sputtering to a halt. It's up to us to work together and make sure it stops and starts to reverse. It hasn't reversed yet by any means and we need more votes in the Congress and the Senate. It could take a couple more elections. I doubt a Bill like this will get out of committee but the Assault Weapons Bill can't be ignored. If the present administration doesn't get behind sunsetting it, Bush could very well be a one term president.

I'd be inclined to agree with you if I knew more about Tancredo's views other than on immigration. I need to review them better.

Tancredo votes virtually the same as Ron Paul except on foreign policy and of course immigration.

I‘ve seen estimates that 50% of American homes have at least ONE firearm in them, taking the figure of 260 million citizens, as opposed to “subjects,” 90 to 100 million gun owners might be closer.

If the present administration doesn't get behind sunsetting it, Bush could very well be a one term president.

Since all they need to do to let it sunset is nothing, if it doesn't sunset that means Bush has betrayed us. I suppose it is possible (since Bush-1 did the same thing with his executive order banning imports), but I still have some hope for the current President. He seems to be a better man than his father. Of course, if he does sign a renewal, that means the republican congress has betrayed us as well (by introducing such legislation in the first place). Surely after what happened in 1992 and 1996 they can't be that stupid.

Hopefully, republicans have learned by now that they can't win federal elections without the support of gun owners.

Good taglines bear repeating. I'm saving it for use later also.
