NORTH Korea has again warned it would regard any UN sanctions over its nuclear ambitions as an act of war, a special adviser to the secretary-general has said.
After returning from talks in Pyongyang and briefing UN chief Kofi Annan, adviser Maurice Strong told reporters that North Korea had made it clear to him that the UN Security Council should not take up the issue. "They have even used the expression that they would regard action by the Security Council to impose sanctions or any similar punitive action as an act of war," he said.
Strong's comments came after US Undersecretary of State John Bolton, in Seoul to rally support, said South Korean officials had agreed on taking the matter before the Security Council.
Bolton said France, Britain and most likely Russia would also support such a move and that China had voiced no opposition.
North Korea insists that the dispute over its nuclear capabilities is an issue to be dealt with solely with the United States.
The North has quit a global non-proliferation treaty and begun reactivating its main nuclear reactor, shut down since 1994 in a deal to halt its nuclear weapons program.

North Korea will become a hot issue. Someone needs to change the subject before the Blix Report is given. I would even guess we could see a missile test over Japan in the next 72 hours...

More irrelvancy staring the UN in the face.
To: duckman
Nope. It'll be an act of war against South Korea. Their artillery can, operating from within NK territory, flatten Seoul.

"NORTH Korea has again warned it would regard any UN sanctions over its nuclear ambitions as an act of war" I do not object. North Korea is welcome to destroy the U.N.

,,, that reactor will be generating power within weeks. This is the perfect ploy to distract attention from Iraq, knowing that they have China as a backer. They know how to play the game.
To: Heartlander2
They are taking nuclear blackmail to new levels. Now, the UN must not even mention North Korea, or it's war?
At some point, you simply call their bluff. Just one of our Trident submarines could win a war with North Korea in about 15 minutes.

Given that it was
Maurice Strong, I wonder what was really said.
Since when did he become an arms control negotiator?

Their artillery can, operating from within NK territory, flatten Seoul. What's Seoul's population?
If it's as big as I think it is (8M+), this could slide downhill real damned fast...

This is not good... Not to worry. Ali Bubba-2 will give North Koreans Green Cards, amensty for captured spies, and buy them homes. He might even marry off one of his daughters to the fruitcake that runs North Korea. I've heard he likes blondes. At any rate,Bubba-2 will do whatever pandering he has to do to get himself out of the hole he has dug by deploying all our ready forces to the middle east.

NORTH KOREA NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OUT,NO WARNING , JUST BOOM....NOTHING ELSE.

Just one of our Trident submarines could win a war with North Korea in about 15 minutes. They clearly don't believe we'd do it.
I'd bet the UN doesn't either.
The real question is, would South Korea prefer fallout from US weapons, conventional war with the North, or possibly nuclear war with the North? They'd better tell us in advance.
I doubt that the US command is all hot to trot to protect a country that refuses to protect itself and despises the freedom bought with American lives while unnecessarily risking our soldiers to a nuclear confrontation just because they don't feel comfortable about it.
