[history]
Last week was quite a week. The debate over affirmative action continued to rage on the Sunday interview shows as the nation prepared to celebrate the birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King on Monday. On Tuesday, the Census Bureau confirmed that Hispanics have become the nation's largest minority group. A day later, in their customary fashions, opposing sides acknowledged the 30th anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe vs. Wade abortion decision. As these events unfolded, it was impossible not to observe a host of interconnected trends that helped to explain present-day problems and that projected their deterioration in the future.

The left's psychotic attachment to sexual immorality is destroying this country. They try to say that same-sex behavior is no different than sexual relations between a husband and a wife. They say that sex outside of marriage - before or during - is a harmless pastime. And here is the result.
People who say that sexual behavior is just a personal matter and has no repercussions on the social body is conciously lying. In fact, it's just the opposite. There's not much that has a greater effect on the social body than sexual behavior. One of the main reasons is chidren.

You've posted a contradiction in terms: The left's psychotic attachment to sexual immorality is destroying this country. The leftist societal engineers don't believe there can be 'sexual' immorality. Now, drive an SUV and buster, you've done an immorla thing! Or vote for a Republican, well, just you watch out 'cause you've committed a liberal sin!

Now, the black illegitimacy rate hovers around 70 percent What a horror.

Abortion rates, moreover, are five times higher among black women than among white women. This ought to be billboarded across the country: "ABORTION IS RACIST."

King, Jackson, and Mfume are behavioral and moral role models for the basic trashiness that is the problem.

Federal policies such as welfare, medicaid, and special aid to single mothers have rewarded illegitimacy for decades, so these numbers should come as no surprise.
The destruction of the black family in America is a one of the most horrific legacies of liberalism.
This is what comes of an expansive view of the Constitution that has allowed Federal bureaucrats and social engineers to control most domestic social policies.

Using rank political calculations to jettison deeply held, morally based views he had proudly embraced for years, Mr. Lieberman calls to mind the similarly shameless, self-serving political arithmetic that led Rep. Dick Gephardt and the Rev. Jesse Jackson in the 1980s to deep-six their long-held, morally based opposition to abortion.
I think there's a fallacy buried in there. Why assume, if those views were "jettisonable," that they were morally based? Morals are supposed to be unbreachable constraints on human action, not tactically expedient devices to be "jettisoned" like empty fuel tanks when they don't serve some self-interested purpose. But we're talking about Democrats here, aren't we?
Incidentally, isn't it poignant that the birth-control and pro-abortion movements were both aimed squarely at reducing both fertility and illegitimacy among urban blacks? Margaret Sanger was absolutely explicit about that, which is why so many of the earliest Planned Parenthood emplacements appeared in predominantly black urban neighborhoods. Yet, to complement the tide of slaughtered unborn, we have far more black illegitimacy than ever before.
It's more than I can bear to think about on a Sunday morning.

I guess Jesse Jackson's love-child would be counted in that 70%. By his actions then, would he not be promoting illegitimacy??????? What a leader!!!!!!!

Mfume himself has fathered (?) five children by three different women.

This is an excellent editorial piece, but it doesn't go far enough in discussing the implications of this problem. The breakdown of the black family is the logical outcome of the black community's surrender to the values of the Sexual Revolution. The same values are infecting the rest of America, only at a somewhat slower pace. Many people do not seem particularly alarmed by the trend. (See the reaction even here to the posting of
"Cohabitation popular among college students") a few days back.) But if present trends continue unchecked, the end result will be an America that looks very like the ghetto. Not a pretty place.

And I heard that the white illegitimacy rate hovers around 30 percent, which is what the black rate was prior to LBJ's "Great Society".
