FAIRPORT HARBOR, Ohio --
A man and woman who vandalized a baby Jesus statue in a church's outdoor nativity marched through town with a donkey to apologize.
Jessica Lange and Brian Patrick, both 19, were ordered by a judge to make Sunday's march through this northeast Ohio town after they admitted defacing a statue at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church on Christmas Eve.
Small groups of residents watched as the two walked and asked forgiveness. They led a donkey provided by a petting zoo through the streets carrying a sign that said, "Sorry for the jackass offense."
The procession allowed Lane and Patrick to avoid a longer jail sentence for stabbing the statue and defacing it with Satanic symbols.
"This is a kind of conscience flogging," said municipal Judge Michael Cicconetti.
After the 30-minute march, the pair were taken by police to jail to serve 45-day sentences that will include drug and alcohol treatment. They also must replace the statue.
Their parents must be soooo proud!
Judge Cicconetti has handed out similar, outstanding sentences:
Thompson shouted obscenities at officers, called them pigs and made obscene hand gestures Jan. 28 when police were in his neighborhood on a disturbance call.
So, Thompson now has to track down a pig and put a sign on it that reads "This is not a police officer."
Thompson has to stand with the pig for two hours in order to avoid spending three days in jail.

Cicconetti ordered the 33-year-old Willoughby man, who fled from a trooper, to compete against law enforcement officers who will run in The News-Herald Johnnycake Jog on July 28.
Logar's place in the race will determine the length of his stay in the Lake County Jail in Painesville.

The couple who had sex on the beach, a 33-year-old Glendale, Ariz., man and a 24-year-old Cleveland woman, were each ordered to pay for an apologetic newspaper advertisement, fined $50 each and ordered to perform two days of community service.
Isn't it degrading enough to be the mascot for the Democrat party?
