Anti-war boycott hurting Rush? (It causes Rush Limbaugh's listeners to tune in more)

Anti-war boycott hurting Rush?

The leader of an anti-war activist media lobby and a report in CBS MarketWatch claim a boycott of Rush Limbaugh sponsors is working.

Kicked off just over a week ago by Take Back The Media, the effort seeks to intimidate sponsors of the No. 1 radio show in the country.

Micheal Stinson, a Vietnam-era veteran and co-founder of Take Back The Media, claimed on Bill O'Reilly's Fox News Channel show tonight that RadioShack, Bose and Amtrak have all dropped the Limbaugh program as a result of the boycott.

According to CBS MarketWatch, RadioShack spokesmen said any ads that aired on Limbaugh's show were a mistake to begin with. The company said it "strictly adheres to a policy of not intentionally buying advertising space on programs that might be political or socially controversial or that promote any one individual's agenda or point of view."

Amtrak told CBS MarketWatch that its ads were part of a complicated barter deal and that it normally does not sponsor political shows and "in the future ... will communicate [that] practice to" other partners.

All three companies told O'Reilly show staffers that the boycott had no impact on its advertising decisions.

Other advertisers targeted by Take Back the Media include Darden Restaurants' Red Lobster chain, Pfizer, AutoZone and online retailer Overstock.com – none of which would comment to CBS MarketWatch.

Limbaugh is syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks, a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications. While not addressing whether the show had lost any advertisers as a result of the boycott, Premiere issued the following written statement:

"There have been many times in the 15-year history of 'The Rush Limbaugh Program' when national and world events have generated increased listening as well as increased communication with individuals who have opposing points of view," said company President Kraig Kitchin. "The kind of compelling radio that generates opposition also causes Rush Limbaugh's weekly 20 million listeners to tune in that much more and listen longer."

I was wondering!!! The Vietnam war officially ended in 1975, that was 28 years ago. Now if that guy was 18 years old (the youngest age you could enlist) when Vietnam ended, that would make him at least 46 years old. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, lets say the youngest could be 44 years old, did he look like a 44 year old Vet, or am I a victim of faulty logic?

The Vietnam era officially ended May 7, 1975. The Vietnam Era GI Bill ends the Vietnam era on 1 January 1977. I knew a couple of people who called themselves Vietnam era simply because they joined the militaty during the late 1970's. They got plenty of arguments on that one, as they should have.

I saw this Clymer on "The Factor". He's plenty full of himself.

Also, how many listeners does Rush have anyway? I doubt an advertiser would be stupid enough to offend that many potential customers.

Overstock.com apparently is that stupid. They seem to be the only ones that have made an active decision to side with the haters.

Formerly, I listened a couple of times a week, but since the Democratic Party and their loony lemmings began to complain about him, I've been turning him on every day and listening to the entire program.

The whiners did me a service! LOL.

Micheal Stinson, a Vietnam-era veteran and co-founder of Take Back The Media...

I saw Stinson last night on O'Reilly. He appeared to be in his early 40s or late 30s. If so, then how could he be a Vietnam Vet? The last American troops were pulled out of Vietnam in 1973 which would make Stinson too young to have been a Vietnam Vet. Does anybody out there know exactly how old Stinson is?

I was wondering the same thing. BTW, I think the last American troops were pulled out of Vietnam in 1973 (although the War ended in 1975 with the downfall of Saigon to the North Vietnamese). Was Stinson even in Vietnam? He looks to be in his early 40s or late 30s---Much too young to have been a Vietnam Vet. Somebody out there please find out the age of Stinson.

He is variously described as a Vietnam Vet or a Vietnam-era Vet. In the latter case this means he could have been in the service after the fall of Saigon in 1975 and still be part of the latter description until 1977. Methinks Stinson was NEVER in Vietnam while in the military and is just glomming on to that Vietnam Vet description for PR purposes.

I just checked out that Google search you provided and in many of the descriptions of Stinson, they start out with a mention of "Vietnam-era Veteran." Why do I have a feeling that he was never in Vietnam while in the military? Sounds like he is using that "Vietnam-era Vet" designation for PR purposes. American troops were pulled out of Vietnam in 1973 and the ACTUAL war ended in 1975 with the fall of Saigon.

Say ya to da U.P., eh.

I sent my "mass" e-mail last night after seeing that fool on O'Reilly.

Hope you don't have to travel to far today. It could get ugly out there. Us trolls are catching it down here.

So has anybody out there found out just how old Stinson is? He would need to be at least 48 years old to have been old enough to be a Vietnam Veteran who was IN Vietnam while American troops were still there.

I plan to contact Bose to ask them to reconsider.

I did. It was not a positive response. I have already deleted their response, but I will not buy another Bose.

I have been thinking of buying a Bose radio for some time. I think I will give them a call and inform them that I will be listening to see if they are going to knuckle under to the threats of Take Back The Media.

Vietnam-era veteran

That is a code word for, "I was in the service during the time period but did not do a tour in Nam."

That is a pretty strange response for a company that sells radios. Especially when conservatives rule the radio world.
