Wonder how much overall space junk there is now on the ground.
To: kattracks
Yeah, and everyone claims to have attended Woodstock too.

I know people are laughing at this, but if the shuttle started coming apart when it entered the atmosphere, I have no doubt that some small, light pieces might have been carried on upper level winds.

Gee, if they'll come haul it off, I can point out some great shuttle debris in the garage!

Hey, I WAS at Woodstock. Ok, so it was 2 years before I was born, but I was still there!

LOL, yeah, I have an old garage door that could have been part of the payload bay.

Imagine the potential of a couple pounds of anthrax powder from the same height...Well. there aren't too many of us up there. By the time it came down from that height, it'd probably be home again :)
To: kattracks
I wonder if it was the wind or the use of EBAY.com??

This will be a case of the shuttle debris weighing two or three times the original weight.

Yeah, and everyone claims to have attended Woodstock too.
Along this line, I'd always been unaware that the Greek Theater in Los Angeles held some 12,000,000 people to see and hear Neil Diamond record his "Hot August Night" album.

At the time of breakup the southernmost point of the jetstream just touched under the area where the shuttle broke up, so the debris fell down through the jetstream.
Many speculated that lighter materials such as paper may scatter up and down the east coast.

Local news in Charleston, SC is reporting that a piece may have been found here. It's a small scorched fabric piece with a chemical smell. Supposedly, NASA has confirmed it may be from the shuttle.
To: glock rocks
Thanks for the map. A scrap found in Charleston, SC may not be so far fetched.
